My Europe Trip 2018

This is the first post on what I hope will be a series of updates during April and May as i take the Disco 3 (13 years and 180,000 miles) on another long trip. This time we are taking our time as I am semi-retiring at the end of March. So, although only 2000 miles of towing we are taking 7 weeks and will probably do another 2000 miles exploring. Here is the route:

The MOT was going to fall due whilst away, so it went in early and today it PASSED with NO ADVISORIES! Let' hope this sets the tone for the next few months.

I will be treating the D3 to a polish and wax before we set off. I have already got a stock / list of parts to take with me as well as various tools that i may just need. I shall not let SWMBO see then as she will get jittery about the D3 going that far (and back).

The dogs have already been treated to their rabies jab and have their passports ready.

Hopefully this thread will become entertaining for all the good reasons and nothing bad or that needs help from members of this forum; i followed Del in his trip in Old D that came to an abrupt end! Hoping to avoid repetition.

Your car will be fine, just give her a stern talking to. Plus promise her a nice holiday when she's back and she'll be ticketyboo. Thumbs Up

If you have the time take the detour off the A10 1 hour south of Salzburg and go via Obertauern - Tweng its a very pretty and quite high scenic route but safe even for lorries. Thumbs Up

PS: I have been to lake Bled its very pretty.

I'll be following you with interest, barnie as we'll be doing something similar (only 5 weeks and not as far as Slovakia) in September.

Slovakia is lovely and Lake Bled very pretty (though very touristy - when we were there 2 years ago every 3rd person we met on the walk round the lake was British Laughing ). Also make sure you visit Lake Bohinj just to the west.

Have you pre-booked sites or are you just turning up ?

Thanks, we will look at the detour off A10. I think we are staying at Lake Bled on the first day of the season. It is already booked as is the Lake Garda site and the stopover for the dogs on the way back. The rest of the stops will be whenever and wherever we are. This will be a challenge as we like to have things booked in advance!

Del, I thought the polish and wax would be enough of a treat for the D3. She is also receiving super diesel between now and the end of the trip. Oh, and she got new wiper blades yesterday!

Slovenia is a very beautiful country especially the Julian Alps in the north.

The tintent visited Camp Danica Bohinj
in early June 2017. Lovely open grass and trees campsite with a nice restaurant. Needed to use a second EHU cable. Drove through Bled on the way in and it was extremely busy.

Just pack a credit card. And make sure you have decent breakdown cover. Look at what is covered, and the amounts, don't assume cheap is worth the paper it's written on. And the more you see the word "unlimited" the better, I know from experience. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Platinum card loaded. Got bulbs/fuses and the ubiquitous brake switch. Any other staples?
