Another long, considered thread reply lost

Well, 'Brexit' is locked out, and for the second time a post that took around 20 minutes to compose is lost.

Anyway, in precis:
- I don't think a thread needs to change minds to be useful;
- understanding others viewpoints is of value;
- amongst the dross is some good information;
- in a society where much of our 'circles' become self-reinforcing it is good to have fora where there are a range of opinions.

So, here's hoping the UK looks to strike a trade deal with South Africa that removes tariff quotas on S.A wine and tariffs altogether on tropical fruit. Smile

You make good points, and I don't make a habit of locking threads on here on a whim.

However when the expected and well-established courtesy to each other is sadly lacking I can't turn a blind eye just because it's about Brexit.

I understand that moderators of a Discovery forum cannot be busy all the time for a discussion which is not even on a Discovery but I am disappointed that after 300 pages of discussions which despite the polarised opinions and the sometimes heated debates were still relatively controlled now the discussion had to be closed twice

It seems that the effort of somebody on a mission to destroy that discussion has paid. Maybe a more selective action would have avoided the need to close the discussion (but also people needs to stop feeding the trolls)

This is exactly what trolls do and the outcome damages people interested in the discussion
 It takes all sorts (to make a world).

What selective action is that? Spend all our time moderating that thread and nothing else?

Stopping who has triggered the escalation as it seems very easily identifiable

Does this villain you speak of have a name?

Do you have a record of what posts were reported and then edited?

I reported abusive posts and they were edited or removed - including some of yours.

Pot, kettle and black - a well known phrase can be derived from this.
 D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven

Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..

Unfortunately, and sadly, I have not seen a thread/debate/anywhere on the brexit issue, that is not moderated, lead to anything but a bun fight.

We have another ten years of it probably..

Blimey Prof, you make it sound like you're forced to post here and are held here against your will and subsequently begrudge what happens. Shocked

Chill, it's an internet forum and you're free to leave whenever you like.

Isn't it?

Oh gosh what a relief!

To be fair. You are wrong. The Brexit thread is a COMPLETELY different kettle of fish. Some slightly smelly. Could actually be off Thumbs Up

Define it as "here be dragons" and be hands-off. Post by the sword, die by the sword, so to speak. Thumbs Up
