Driving lights or LED light bar behind grille?
I'd like to throw some more light on to the road during the long dark northern winter. I don't like the look of extra driving lights, don't want to drill into the bumper to attach brackets for spotlights, and feel that it might be a PITA to have spotlight brackets poking through the grille from the engine compartment.
I rather fancy an LED light bar mounted behind the grille, and shining out through the lowest gap in the grille. Do you think enough light would get through to make that a worthwhile mod?D1 300Tdi - gone

to fit in that gap you'd most likely need a single row light bar... and from my experience those are a total waste of time in respect to light output
there's not many places to hide lights on the front of the D4 where they'll still give a decent light output2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

I did it like this. Yes it is a slimmed, curved LED-bar but the output is ok.

Also went for the bar. Throws out significant extra light though this picture does not demonstrate that.
I did investigate "hiding" it but it did not make sense in the detail so opted for what you see.
"Next time" will go for the more discreet pair of lights similar to Andy's.

I like those Lazer lights. My question was really about whether something like that would work if the lights were mounted BEHIND the grille.
At the moment, I'm veering towards a curved light bar like Peter's. Would that also work mounted behind the lowest slot in the grille? Is there room?D1 300Tdi - gone

I don't think it will to be honest. Not behind a D3 grill at any rate. You'd have to remove some of the grill or else you are masking your own light.D3 07 SE - still going strong

Completely agree.
Are you going to the Peterborough show? Loads of examples to look at there usually.

I'll give the Peterborough show a miss. It's quite a way for me to drive and anyway, I'll probably still be away with work by then. Would be useful to have a nosey around and see what everyone else is doing to their cars.D1 300Tdi - gone

Lazer Lamps are really starting to catch my attention with all these factory looking mounting kits.
I was checking out something very similar recently for my Transit Custom. Just a shame the lights themselves are silly money

now that is a very neat solution. Do you have a night picture of the light output? As I said earlier my only experience with a single row light bar wasn't a particularly good one2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320

Hi Andy
Plus 1 ref those lights , looks very nice
Also like the way the interior switch can be mounted
Seen a few other pics where owners have mounted them in different positions but must admit those Lazer lights do look good
