LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Ok you lot, that’s mocking the afflicted!!!
Though issue is fixed as got a new hat today at the Lucky Pierrot burger joint. Not bad for less than the price of a burger & fries. Noggin is back to not dazzling the world anymore.

Last day on Hokkaido and a train with great views day. And last of these super swanky humpbacked trains, back in local train then 4 hours plus on Shinkansen to Tokyo tomorrow.
Lovely view of Koma-ga-take volcano.
Even better with the pole no longer in the way.

And a very pretty lake. The rest of the pretty scenery escaped unphotographed.

And back in the same hotel as we were in when staying in Hakodate what seems like months ago. Nice view of train station, not too far to hoof it tomorrow for the train.

Going to be strange getting back to Honshu and the sheer business & builtupness (new word alert).
PS Bet you lot underestimated Jamie Oliver. He speaks fluent Japanese!! As does Nigela Lawson and Mary Berry.

Great scenery - well, the bits that you managed to photograph between doing something else - eating?
I imagine "pukka" translates easily into Japanese Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector
Limo Tint
Blackvue front & rear dashcam
Cruise control switch pack
Bodsy's remote for FBH

Shhhhh, don’t mention the “e” word, I’ve managed to put on half a stone since getting back at the beginning of the month.
No, not eating, just having a look at trains from point A to point B for later in the year.
And Japanese for pukka is indeed pukka!!

Aaaaaaaaand back to the metrolopis of Tokyo. View at the mo out the window towards the Rainbow Bridge with one of the hydrofoils heading for harbour for the night. Wake on the left was the other hydrofoil so the green one won’t be lonely.

4 1/2 hours on the Shinkansen was a bit long, bit of NB (numb bum) towards the end but it got to Tokyo bang on time.
A couple of random view pics.

Then it was put the phone on the window ledge and wait for that ellusive number. Officially zippy at 198mph.

And zappy at 199mph.
But plain zoopy at 200mph.

And then back to Tokyo InterCont, but with a view t’other way up the Sumida River with the Tokyo SkyTree in the background.

Feels strange that these are the last few days in Japan and the last 10 days of this short jolly.

Interesting to see that 30c is treated as a heat wave. For us that’s on the cusp of layering up.
Hopefully all this luke warm weather you’ve had will have put a stop to the pesky grass growing. Going to be out with the mower as soon as we’re back, jet lag or no jet lag.

Evening all.
Just tucked up for the early evening traffic (marine & automotive) watching.

Nice beer about to be enjoyed, guess which one was poured by SWMBO.

Beer on right was not poured by moi, but nice lady member of staff that took pity on me.
More pics to follow of today’s fun and frolics in The Big Tee, Tokyo.

And pics from today. Was a bit of a lazy day, didn’t head off until 11am. Will be up & attem earlier tomorrow.
This is a ferry/freighter for the line that services the islands to the SE of Tokyo. None of yer new fangled ro-ro stuff, this is old school lifting stuff on & off by crane. And the hydrofoil. No idea why they have Norwegian flags on funnels & pointy end (ISTR called the bow by nautical types), Googling failed to reveal the answer.

Train into Tokyo central station, was really weird having to pay with our Suica/IC cards. We’re so used to just flashing the JR Passes at the barrier attendant and wafting through, now we have to pay as the passes expired yesterday. We, well the spreadsheet, reckons we’ve saved £1,739.58 in total cf payng for the rides on a PAYG basis. And that includes one week where we couldn’t use one of the passes as we were en route to/back in/en route from Blighty. Deffo a smart move.
Today saw us wondering what that queue was outside the Imperial Palace just to the W of Tokyo station. Clocked it was for a guided tour of part of the grounds so dived into the queue then figured out what we were queuing for exactly. We’re now getting into the way of getting into the queue then seeing if it’s what we want to do first, and as the Japanese have queuing down to the finest of arts it’s a shrewd move.
Pics of the palace grounds. This bit, well top floor, acted as the palace for the imperial family after our cousins across the pond had most inconsiderately turned the old palace into burnt wood.

New palace, built in 80s if we heard right, reminded me of the Reunification Palace in Ho Chi Minh.

With lots more modern being built.

Building here is crazy due to the Olympics. Our tour guide, seen here telling us the date, specifically the Imperial bit of it, hopes to see us all here during the Olympics. Not sure we could afford that!!

Off back there tomorrow to wander around the East Garden and the Yushukan museum (as suggested by kajtzu ). Going to have sore feet this time tomorrow.
