Had a conversation with WD today regarding Crank? had read on here that they are using recon. engines now as replacements. Hello Craig,
Thank you for your time today, as requested i have gave a quick breakdown of what we had discussed over the phone.
I can confirm the information you had been given previously is correct and the crank shaft is covered on a valid claim within our warranty.
Also after discussing with my manager in regards to the parts that will be used, we do reserve the right to choose where the parts are sourced from but it does depend what garage you choose to use, what engine is available to source at the time of the claim ect. As i said on the phone the main dealer do not tend to use reconditioned parts however it will just depend what they have available.
I have attached a policy document below, i hope this will clear up any further queries you may have.
Kindest Regards,
also that if you take to Landrover Dealer YOU HAVE TO PAY AND CLAIM BACK PAYMENT

So, if you chose uncapped rates, you’d plan on using a dealer, dealer won’t fit non genuine parts

that's what she said. But would have to pay for work and claim back yourself, unless you use their repairers. Also asked Local dealer, they also said I would have to pay for work and claim back from WD.

Do they give the go ahead before work commences and agree to reimburse you, or do they argue the toss and weasel their way out of it, leaving you well and truly out of pocket? Discovery 4 HSE

Committed to two years with everything covered at dealer rates with four quarter payments of £378.
With regards to the question on catastrophic engine failure, I put to them, it is my choice where the repairs are done as long as it is a Vat registered garage.

Just claimed for a replacement front diff on my D3 at 150K miles. Listers Hereford did the work and sorted the claim out with WD . All the work and investigation has to be agreed with WD before starting the job. I had a call from WD to say the claim had been approved but I would have to pay the garage and claim it back from WD. Just had to send a copy of the a receipted invoice by email with my Bank details . Received the payment within a few days. Having paid by Credit card I had the money well before the due payment.

When I took out my 3 year WD warranty I confirmed that my local dealer is on their approved repairers list. Gary

Just rang WD as not sure which way to go? They have told me that my local Dealer is also approved repairer in my area so no need to pay and claim back 👍

I have just got a quote on-line at WD around £388 for the core product for 1 year thats at uncapped labour with a £250 excess and 20% towards parts. Im just thinking that would be a massive chunk towards a new engine (or recon) if the crank gave in. Not overly concerned about the rest as will just build a contingency fund as I always have and should the worse happen that would also cover my contribution.
What do you think? Will I get this cheaper on over the phone tomorrow? Do I need something in writing in reference to them covering the crank? Also should i confirm that my local LR dealer is on their approved list as my garage should the need arise?
Not sure these are questions they are prepared to agree to in blood or is it a deal breaker? Just thinking less than £400 for at least a small piece of mind should my disco become one of the 1 in 125 or whatever it was.
Advice greatly appreciated D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

You’ll do well to get it down, they are wise to it now, they will no longer discount, I tried, “no sir, we no longer reduce the price, the quote is the price”.

In fairness most dealers know sod all about anything.
Going back a while but Mine didnt even know D3’s had a problem with the FBH or that the actuator getting stuck was a problem and I have also had to advise them on how to cure problems with the disco using the guidence on this forum, always successfully I may add. D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

Agree. I find it incredible that they take little personal interest in the cars/ issues/ updates/ latest. Sometimes I wonder if they try to be very careful so that they never to admit anything but I have concluded many are not interested. Gary
