I had a 2007 supercharged ffrr and, well, I thought it was rubbish to be honest. I thought the suspension was unremarkable, or maybe even poor. The D3 is streets ahead.

Probably not going to go down well but my new 2006 pathfinder was a nicer drive and place to be than the FFRR I drove today.

Get a range rover sport then if you don’t want too much load space.

OP I don't know what your requirements are, but maybe consider an RRS. These are the same as a D3 underneath so you shouldn't be disappointed.

Advantages of an RRS over D3

Better brakes
Some suspension components up-rated
Lighter steering at slow speeds
More luxurious interior / dash up front.
Lower roof.

Disadvantages.

Not much boot space unless you fold the rear seats down.
If your tall and want the rear seats down flat alot, it doesn't really work, as the front seat can't go very far back
5 seater only
No logic7 sound system on TDV6 models (you get amp and sub though)

Some models have a ACE (active) roll bar. These models have a fluid container clipped to the air box under the bonnet. Costly when it goes wrong

Just a small correction to the above comment.

The RRS can have logic7 with tdv6. I have it on my RRS.

I don't know, but mine is a 2008 HSE (bought second hand) and it has the Logic7. Is FAR better than the HK in my Disco3!!

It is for SWMBO and my Daughter.

In order of priority
Safety.
Must tow 3.5t
Comfort on par or better than my D3.
Budget 7k ish.

I see some advantages with a sport and or and other D3 and getting to understand the mechanics. Both being predominantly the same.

I test drove one a few years back pre V8 and was very disappointed I have since driven a V8 diesel and it was much better power wise and drive ability wise but still disappointing to me. Of the back of the first test drive I bought a coiler D3 which was much better, I have since moved on to an air sprung D3 and now a D4 as well so very much better all around ( just a shame the V8 diesel was never put in the D3/4) looking forward to Disco Mikey result.
