Mannol ATF AG55 is a multifunctional ATF for use in modern 6-speed automatic transmission in cars and commercial vehicles. Meets the requirements of the most common specifications of european car manufacturers. Provides an excellent low-temperature switching behavior, stable high friction level and best wear protective properties for reliable operation and long life.
Thank you all, I did not realize how many different synthetic transmission oils are available now, will use your suggestions to research my options here. Once we get the vehicle out to the shop I'll know if I need to purchase the metal pan and replacement filter kit also, should be easy to change once the engine is out.

Did you check if the D3/RRS/RR 4.4 V8 would work on the V6 D3? I see them on Craigslist for sale from cars that have been salvage. Its a reliable engine.D3 2005 V8 SE Bonatti Grey "The Rhino" (our NYC D3)

Hi SafariDave, I started to check those options and then decided I wanted to keep the V6 and found a decent one nearby. I had heard so many people saying that it should work, but couldn't find anyone who actually did use the Ford engine, that I thought I should experiment. Am also rebuilding the old engine once I get it out, but may add an Eaton M90 supercharger at low (3.5 psi) boost with a kit from Moddbox..maybe...possibly...perhaps. We'll see what my mental state is like after this project...

Not really feasible without taking every computer, sensor and wiring from the donor car as well. The computers in the V6 will be expecting input from a V6 not a V8 and the computers all talk to each other so they all need to be matched.
Yes doable but not really feasible in the real world.

Actually the $1600 one looks pretty good and would be tempting if I hadn't already decided on the V6 path, it will be interesting to see how the great experiment turns out. I do wonder about my sanity but now that my wife has got the machine looking like new inside, I'm at the point of no return as far as the engine goes, and have already committed to the transmission, sure hope the differentials, brakes. and drivetrain are OK, guess I'll find out...

My wife and I own 2 LR3 V8's one in NYC and one in LA. They have both been super reliable. The V8's will do over 300K miles easy. More reliable than the Jag 5.0 V8. I contemplated a 4.0V6 to take to our beach house in PR, but knowing the issues of the V6, I decided for a Discovery II instead.

I believe that the Cologne V6 issues are related to people believing that extended mileage oil changes are OK. I am very skeptical about extended anything when it comes to keeping anything for a long time. My former wife owned Volvo from 1976 to 2000, and her last one (740 Turbo) had 700K (Km) on it when I sold it, 2nd engine and 4th Turbo but original transmission. I really believe that most vehicles made today can go a long time with good maintenance, but most people do not maintain their vehicles to a very high level. Anyway, we will all find out whether the Ford Cologne 4.0L V6 SOHC is going to play well in the Land Rover, I'm pretty sure it will with minimal problems. XX'd fingers...

Hi back, if you work in electronics you can do some surprising things with microcontrollers, to make an ECU believe that there is something else at the other end of the cable. I have played with making a large Cummins diesel engined machine (computer controlled) believe it was talking to a Cummins diesel when in reality it was talking to a Caterpillar 3406e (computer controlled), and it did pass our pretty strict DOT (Canada and USA) safety testing...
Have tested oil pressure (55 psi) and compression (about 190 on each cylinder), getting ready to move LR3 to shop, and will start the transplant. May have to switch oil pans to fit the LR3 oil temperature sensor, thinking about alternatives though...
Well, I have used synthetic engine oil since about 1980, not about to stop now and have filled the test engine with Castrol Syntek, but also going to use it (synthetic tranny oil, NOT engine oil) in the ZF6HP26X transmission, at 260K Km either it will work or I will rebuild the tranny. I am definitely NOT going to use that overpriced oil that ZF plugs, selling here about $25 or $30 (CDN) a litre (US quart) when I can get Valvoline or Castrol for between $25 to $40 for 5 litres. Just my thoughts, you pay your money and you take your choices... Or is it the other way around?...
