I've enjoyed some of the work by Postmodern Jukebox. They have a number of singers involved and cover all sorts of stuff.
I really like Morgan James. She's classically trained and has a heck of a voice. Here's a cover of Aerosmith's Dream On:
She's done a huge amount of stuff, loads on youtube.
A bit odd but I also think their take on Lourde's Royals, sung by a 6ft7 clown is actually pretty decent - compares well to the originally, certainly.
Same clown singing Mad World with Haley Reinhart who is a power-packed vocalist. Another one with lots of stuff on youtube.
But then I also reckon Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, along with the video, is powerful and makes more sense sung by an old man, to me at least.
And I know Miley Cyrus won't be popular here, but her backyard sessions were excellent and her rendition of Dolly Parton's Jolene is very good. Dolly Parton is her godmother, coincidentally.

Saw this lot when I was at uni ... I was on "Front Stage Security"
already dealt with a couple of girls fainting and had to lift them over the barriers and to safety when BANG ... something hit me in the back of the head. Being the consummate professional I just ignored it until I got a tap on the shoulder "Oi mate .... can I have me microphone back ?"
They weren't a band I'd have gone to see by choice but it was a crackin' show.
