As a sometime large van delivery driver here in the far west of Cornwall id like to chip in a few thoughts.
First off i get paid very well to do these stair drops so can take my time researching each location on street view etc.
My local herpes driver gets 0.50p to 0.80p Gross profit per drop. Hence the FOF rapidity required when dropping off parcels.
Post Codes in Cornwall can mean 6 different farms / locations/ meadows..
Calling your address - Leafy Meadow Cottage, Penzance really boil my . Its 156 High street Pz Karen FFS stop trying to look posh!!! Grrr.
7m Vans do not fit in St Ives, Mevagissey, Mousehole etc so yeah sometimes i block the road and am v polite and apologetic to other road users. Being 6ft odd and 20 stone can help too.
Finally set up a drop off at the bottom of said lane / drive/ butlers cottage and you never know after a few attempts they might leave it there.
Just my tuppence ha penny.

I have to stick up for our Hermes chap. He is very courteous and helpful and leaves parcels where we asked him too. In fact most drivers making deliveries to us are great.
We have a house with a name and not a number and a postcode that covers a large area. Where there is a 'notes' field when placing an order I always add the what-3-words address; equally, I can text this to a driver who calls for directions. Streetview is ten years out of date.

I have to add my comment on this re Hermes. Our local driver is very pleasant and always leaves our parcels in the appropriate place out of the weather. Same goes for DPD, Royal Mail et al! We are in a post code area which covers approximately a square mile with 14 properties and we have an address which is a property name (no number), and down a long driveway off a secluded lane. It seems to depend on the individual drivers as to whether the service is good or not.
What's the betting our next delivery is a cock up having issued such praise!!2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Expecting a Hermes delivery today. Have never have had a problem with them. Always get an E mail giving a 2 hour slot when I can expect delivery. What’s to complain about.Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.
I had three emails from Hermes last week, one saying delivery between 10 and 12, another saying 12 and 2, another saying 5 and 7, actually arrived at 8.45pm.
Saying that, DPD have blotted their copy book, waiting for a delivery of curing salts, supplier puts the two bags in the thick plastic bag that couriers supply, they managed to puncture straight through all three bags, supplier then dispatched the order again, delivered yesterday, the bag had been ripped open, resealed with DPD tape, open the packet, yes, both bags ripped open and half the contents missing.

Not just Hermes. This was Amazon earlier today. Polish (or Eastern European) guy in baggy trackies. Car full of Amazon parcels. The picture was taken of him (parked on neighbour's drive) going through the car for the third or fourth time as he looked for our delivery.

Its not just that they dont deliver (probably just this local driver) its that their customer services are appalling. I probably just need this driver to look at the bloody map and go the right way but customer sevices never seem to be able to help, things crash, chats fail etc. I even put a sign at the end of the "wrong way" with a map and directions. Seems like they dont even bother and just drive on when they see my address.Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

Just had good service from Hermes.
Parcel sent on Saturday morning. Received this afternoon.
Only thing that would have improved it would have been if they could provide a tighter delivery time window. 13.00-17.00 isn't ideal. But better than getting nothing but a card through the door when you get home and having to re-schedule.

DPD let me down yesterday. Made an order on Tuesday and paid extra for 2 working day delivery so will be here Thursday then?
Thursday I check the delivery code and it hasn't even been collected yet from the seller.
Mail the seller and they forward me an email saying DPD have a 'technical issue' so it will be delivered one day late so I'll get it Monday. But Monday isn't one day late is it
Contact DPD and they again just say this, unspecified, technical issue. Challenge them that if one day late then that means Friday and they say won't be Friday so the 'next day' will be Monday as it is only 'working days' that count; "But you work Saturdays and Sundays, I know, I've had deliveries from you before and you have had a 'technical issue' so surely you'll try and recover that?".
That'll be a 'no' then, Monday counts as 'next day' on DPD calendar when they up.
Mailed the seller asking for refund of delivery charges. I won't hold my breath.....

On the other side of the coin is our local & ever so helpful Parcel Farce driver. He has a good humour, chatty, and makes it so easy for his "clients" to get their parcels in a timely manner. He ably demonstrated this the other day when he had my usual daily parcel, plus one with my address, but the name of one of neighbours - he got things right, and we both got our parcels complete with his usual chirpy greeting.Rob Smith

Can’t fault Hermes, DPD, Parcel Force, and UPS. Always excellent service and leave any packages where requested. I think it’s down to the people not the company. For the last Four months our Hermes parcels have been delivered by two young Romanian girls working together. They are fantastic and really committed to making sure customers get their Parcels. They run around from house to house and either leave it where requested or with a neighbour. They must be so fit the speed they are moving They even hunt down badly labelled parcels to make sure they are delivered. Can’t fault them. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

Just been talking to parents about deliveries, both mine and there hermes drivers are really good.
Dpd around here is atrocious, always request it isn't sent dpdJust remember:-
Amateurs built the Ark
Professionals built the titanic
Deliveries are usually OK, but I,ve only had 2 recent deliveries from Hermes.
The first was 5-7 days later than expected.
The second was thrown over a fence into my garden some time yesterday, and only discovered at 07:00 this morning. No excuse for this as I have a wide tarmac drive with parking & turning space, well signed although access is 100 yards up a well signed BOAT (Byway open to all traffic).
I always give suppliers my mobile 'phone number & what3words for the entrance.
When I spoke to a "lost" delivery driver a few weeks ago he said he hadn't seen the notes on the label & even if he had he didn't use what3words "as it took too long".
