I wish we were even close to “earning” enough to consider becoming tax exiles. More like to avoid the British winter. Our form of Brexit.

Stone and a half down from the end of the last trip. I blame running and strict diet. The problem will be keeping it down and keeping up the running. Saying that, off out running with SWMBO tomorrow early morning.
Bit of German ICE train travelling day today. Wasn’t too bad the first train from Liege to Köln, managed to get a couple of unreserved seats. Gratuitous pic of speedy train.
Second ICE was a bit of a bunfight for seats. We didn’t reserve seats but were lucky to get a couple of seats, one as the person that reserved it didn’t turn up to turf me out. Train was a bit chunkier, and a lot slower, than the first train, plus it was shorter than it should have been so that meant a lot more peeps trying to find unreserved seats.

Note to self, don’t do ICE trains in Germany without booking seats, I booked the seats for tomorrow’s reservation on the Köln platform when we realised how busy this train would be.
Had a bit of a wander round Hannover centre following the Red Thread. Except we ended up going the wrong way round so it made it a lot trickier to follow as it wasn’t a continuous thread, obviously a limited paint budget. Because of the intermittent nature of the line SWMBO was getting a bit stressed when we weren’t on the paint. Pretty building, and thread.

And back to the main station for scoff from the food court area. Very nice it was too, and not too bad for the aforementioned diet. Crispy duck & chew mein for me, with curry for SWMBO. Really odd ordering food from Vietnamese peeps speaking German, the wifey taking the order was too fearsome for me to try out the few words of Vietnamese I remember.

Now settled down with a bottle of cheapo vino, while watching BBC1 West on TV, in Hannover.

Also starving hungry, those are now a distant memory.
And greetings from outside Kiel Hbf.

Our ferry is tomorrow isn’t until the evening, now off by bus to visit the U boat (U-995) at Laboe. According to SWMBO it’s the one they filmed Das Boot on. Pics to follow.
PS SWMBO is now saying she didn’t say that, just it’s the last of that type. Can’t get the staff these days.

And a few pics from U-995. For anyone that finds themselves in Kiel with a bit of time it’s a great place to spend a little time.
Here she is.

In through a door cut in the side, straight in front of the stern (nautical term alert) torpedo tube.

I wasn’t allowed to play with this, and (confession time) I didn’t think to shout ALAAAAAAARM at the top of my voice.

View up the conning tower/sail/tall bit. We weren’t allowed up there as that would be too much like fun, esp sliding back down the ladders.

Special boxes to pick up the Beeb, hope they paid their TV Licenses.

Bit of a squeeze to get through the round hatches, using the grab handles & chucking body through. Luckily had a handy seat for mid process.

And the bits that went bang, in the bow torpedo room.

Then outside for a look at the exterior.

All that was hungry work so when in an old fishing village, surrounded by the sea it can be only one thing, currywurst. We were after fisch & chips but we were too early.
Then the little ferry back.
And a nice view of the sister-ship of the ferry we’ll be on this time tomorrow. She’s a bit rusty in places, Stena have until tomorrow to get the Scandinavica looking a lot more presentable.

Surreal TV moment time. Watching Hogan’s Heros dubbed into German.

Now off to see if I can get a download of Das Boot from somewhere.

Now sat in Göteborg Cent Station with a couple of hours to kill until our train to Stockholm. Buying cheap tickets always means a bit of hanging around but not too bad a place for a bit of peeps watching/surfing.
A few pics from yesterday. We took the bus up to the Kiel canal, we had all day to kill so plenty of time to watch the ships go by, combined with Ship Tracker to see where they are going.

Then a 6km hike, with packs, back to the town centre. Olympic Rings in a few places, 1936 and 1972 venue.

The pride of the German Navy.

And back to town to stock up on stuff for Sweden & Finland. Note blue sky, not seen any since.

Lunch, deffo an acquired taste!

The little ferry we took yesterday, once it had passed we were able to set sail. Our captain knew his place.

The rest of the German Navy.

And final pic, our first tram of the trip, from near the harbour to Göteborg Cent Station. Well not quite ours but it’s twin as by the time I’d found my phone to take a pic ours had headed off.

Now just twiddling thumbs until time for our train.
