Dan_W a batwing or foxwing can be adjusted for front to back movement. One of the tubular ribs goes across the back of the vehicle. Our D4 does not have a rear access ladder fitted. Main thing is to ensure ladder does not clash with this fourth rib.
It all depends on what roof rack fitted and what brackets between rack and awning are used and positioning of the awning front to rear.

Thanks Brendan
I see what you are saying, however with my prospeed rack and ladder, once the rear hatch is open there is only a small gap between then for the 4th rib to fit in to as per the below pic. (I guess it just needs fine tuning)
Plus the ladder will be quite high so I was worried it may put pressure on the canvas. I cant seem to see any photos of them open on a Disco with the rear hatch open but will keep looking Thanks again everyone

Dan, have a look at Andy Fosters photo using the Prospeed brackets.
Now IIRC the 4th rib is the highest one which goes across the back. Time for tape measure and level to come out. Looking at the photo the top rib is about 125-150mm above the roof rack.
The Batwing can be position so it opens above the rack and clear of the rear top hatch. Now how much it will come into contact with the canvas I do not know.
One solution would be to use an extension piece onto the Prospeed bracket to give clearance. The slight problem there could be the height of the awning on opening and closing. Might need a hop up to help.

I have just been out with a tape measure and all looks good. Looks like a batwing awning will defo be on the shopping list in the next few months

prosper front plate
I can't get hold of Andy at the moment so does anyone have any details about this front plate on his roof rack please.
Is it a buyable item or self made?
Thank you

Sorry everyone but not been very well of late.
The awning does sit quite high using the PS brackets so not envisaging any issues although I haven’t had time to get out for a try yet.
The front plate is a spotlight mounting plate from PS. When I bought mine they weren’t on their website so you need to call them about it.
Hope that helps all and again sorry for the delay in answering your questions

Rather than start a new thread i thought I would ask the question on an established one.
I see most people fix their awnings to roof racks. We don't have a roofrack and use roof bars for our tent.
However the tent has T- channels all round so would fix the awning to this. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this?
Our tent is an AluCab style roof box that flips open...
