I just tried this and found I cannot get the wire to go beyond 90cm? it just comes to a solid stop.
I have ground the end to a nice point, tried twisting the wire in both directions but it is a no go I'm afraid?

Hey, I just did this on my D4 (66 plate), I pushed the wire in as far as I could and marked the top with some tape, when I withdrew it I measured the total length as 80cm, the wire had plenty of oil on it too - this doesn't seem to stack up with the 96cm mentioned above? Anyone else tried this?

You are not pushing the wire in far enough, twist the wire as you push, correct for a D4. It can when others can't,

Is it just me...? Surely it doesn't really matter how far you are able to get the wire to go in, the level can just as easily be a target distance below the top of the dipstick hole. So if Wicked's 36 cm is borne out by other vehicles, then all you need is a 40cm length of your curtain wire... Previously:

Seeing this I’ve often tried to get a tube down the dipstick tube on my D3 for it to be attached to a vacuum pump to no avail
Regardless of the various tube sizes that came with the vacuum pump it always gets stuck , just wondered if anyone may have had any success in extracting the engine oil and what size tube they used plse

Gstuart, the plastic tube should not be pushed into the oil extraction tube, but over it. Ensure it being a tight fit as the smallest air leak prevents the pump of sucking oil.
