Taken from RAC T&C's

18. This policy does not cover

your vehicle if it is not legally taxed, insured
and holding a valid MOT which is required
by law or is not being used in line with the
manufacturer’s guidelines

Because it was SORN unfortunately not covered

I've been caught out by this also, taking my car to the MOT station it broke down and they refused to recover, even though it wasn't sorned, was taxed and insured...just the MOT had expired...and as far as I'm aware you are allowed by law to drive to and from an MOT testing station.

Cost me £150 to get them to recover it...yes that's right, they didn't just leave me there, they charged me to recover the car even though I was a fully paid up member (note the use of the word "was")

So I have not read all the posts but , say you are driving down the road and the front lower arm snapped / laughing shaft fell off , if you took it for an mot it would not pass due to bust arm or shaft so not road worthy.
So now at the side of the road with a broken arm or shaft RAC say well sorry your car is not road worthy so we are not going to recover you. Whistle Whistle Whistle

RAC at their best Rolling Eyes

Giving a few hours wait is pretty standard with RAC from personal experience and from others i have spoken to.
