Bought a D5
Not getting it for a couple weeks... but...
I have a superb 2005MY D3 which I've had for the best part of 14 years. Love it. Still takes us to the Alps and SW France twice a year. Would probably still take it!
Mrs C has an ageing Passat that needed replacing, so we're sticking with the D3 and after months of deliberation from I-Pace (which I very nearly pulled the trigger on) via a Defender... however my decision was based on the fact that it didn't actually solve a problem my D3 didn't (which is in superb condition)... I also would really miss the boot! love sitting on the boot of it with the tailgate up watching the kids play sport, and it's really useful for getting them changed under the roof out of muddy kit, and putting dogs in the boot without worrying about scuffing the bumper.
Had kind of dismissed the D5, but kept coming back to the boot...!
So just bought a new Carapathian Grey HSE, SDV6 with loads of extras. Totally love it! Genuinely think it's really underrated!2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Nice one John - really enjoy mine. Its so much better than the D3 or D4 in many ways - OK, its different, not a"straight" replacement as such, but its a nicer place to sit and be with the world going by outside.
Enjoy

sounds a perfect motor and with the added benefit of the being the V6
and lets not forget that many people, myself included, took a long long while to like the D3 when it first came out with its big slab sides and van like appearance.
at least with the offset number plate the D5 cant be mistake for any other clone on the road 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Hope that you enjoy it.
By the end of the weekend I’ll have clocked up 10k miles in the 69 plate D5 SDV6 “loaner”. The engine is freeing up now and it feels even quicker. The lie o meter is telling 31.7mpg. Which even assuming it’s out by 10% would be good for how I’ve been driving it.
I still don’t like the much smaller glass area and the fact that you sit in rather than on it. That’s of course personal preference though. To me it feels like an estate car, albeit one that is higher up. I can’t see the corners, so I don’t like taking it off road. Again my personal opinion.
Aside from the unacceptable software glitches, which are infuriating but presumably an easy fix with new downloads (it’s barely 6 months old ), if you like it and it suits yours needs there’s a lot going for it.
I will say that the new SDV6 does make all the difference. It really does feel powerful, with just me on board there probably isn’t much if anything in it compared to my SDV8 FFRR. Totally different power delivery of course, but probably just as quick.
As already said, it’s not a direct replacement for the D4. To me it feels much more of a car than a 4X4. Judge it for what it is and it’s very good. The styling is a “Marmite” thing. I still really don’t like it, but each to their own.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I’ll definitely be considering a 5 myself further down the line - although I’ll probably go for the SD4.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

Thanks all for the messages!
Interesting stuff LT - kind of very similar view to mine! I really noticed the different seating position and kind of like it. My D3 feels like the family local beater, but the D5 will be nice, particularly as it feels like holidays for the forceable future will involve long drives and as my work driving starts a bit, trains and planes are off the cards for a while!2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Without wishing to hijack the OP's thread, what's wrong with your FFRR that's taking so long to sort?Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Lockdown in Wales and the fact that Stratstones Newport Service centre only started back mid July hasnt helped. Prior to lockdown they fitted a new high pressure fuel pump, which didn’t sort it.
They’ve fitted new turbos a fortnight ago but haven’t got back to me yet!2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
