| Upper Brake Light flickering |

My third brake light is flickering intermittently, it seems better when the tailgate is at 45 degrees or similar
Cabling to the unit is fine and i have a solid 12v with pedal pressed
is it supposed to stay on all the time? ie with brake pedal pressed and when the tailgate is open or does it go out as tailgate is opened?
Suspect it might be a dry joint but it's unlikely I can get it apart to repair so needs a new unit and can see it's a complete nightmare to replace  Mark
