How to know what lights I have??!?
Hi all.
Have been searching and found lots of recommendations as to the best aftermarket bulbs to use on headlights.
Only problem is I have no idea what lights are fitted to my 2012 Discovery 4 HSE.
So whilst my searching on here has given me a great shortlist. I don't want to buy the wrong thing.
Sorry. I know this is a dumb question. But lights / electrics are my weak point!

If you look at the back of your headlights there will be a sticker on them which will tell you if they are Halogen or Xenon - for Halogen it will say L319 Headlamp Halogen
As you have a MY12 it is probably halogen lights - probably!
If they are halogens then it is a H7 bulbUncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Brill. Thanks very much.
Well my searching in the forum shows that the Osram Nightbreaker are a very well regarded halogen replacement.
Will look in the morning.
Thanks very much.

I have a 2012 HSE and found it has Xenon dipped lights and halogen main beam. I fitted the night breaker bulbs to the main beam, fantastic improvement.

Good to hear. I will maybe check them tonight so I can get shopping!
I feel the normal headlights are pretty yellow and rubbish.

So.. took a look and this is what is stamped on the lights.
The last line I assume is the answer. With one of the bulbs being D3S and the other being H7.
What I am looking to improve is the headlight that you use all the time. Which I always knew as the dipped beam (as opposed to the super bright 'high / full' beams).
Any of you know which one is which so that I can buy the upgraded bulbs needed?
Thanks very much.

The D3S HID light is the low-beam or regular driving lights.. The H7 type light is the long-beam - the one you flash at people or have on when there aren’t any streetlights and traffic in the opposite direction.

Brill. Thanks.
Just seen the price of the D3S bulbs! Eeeek.

Hope your H7 high beam is better than that on my now gone 11MY HSE where most of the light went up into the sky and didn’t add anything to seeing further ahead. They were great for spotting bird in the trees but useless for spotting red dear lurking along the roadside.

Right.
So after reading reviews and recommendations on here, I ordered some Osram Night Breaker D3S for the dipped beam.
Can I ask..
Would you choose to replace the H7 high beams at the same time or just leave them as they are?

Do you know when they were changed? If you don’t, they’re not very expensive to replace... all things considered I mean. If you do, you probably know how much you’ve used them, too. I think the “industry promise” is 500-1000 hours, only, as a MTBF figure.
I once swapped the H7s (one had burned out) as a pair and when fitting back my cornering light on the light module that had nothing wrong with it failed. So I then removed both once again and replaced the cornering lights. That’s Mr. Murphy to you.

Thanks.
Yes - the main cost appears to be the dipped beam D3S bulbs that I have just ordered. The Nightbreaker H7s by comparison are far cheaper at just £20.
1) Am I right in thinking that any H7 bulbs can be used for high beam use?
2) On a completely different note. I can see I have cornering bulbs. What's the easiest way to check they are working as cannot say I have noticed any benefit to date.
Cheers.

I just replaced my D2S xenon bulbs in my 2006 D3 with Osram Nightbreaker ones like you have ordered. The difference is simply incredible - very very worthwhile. You won’t be disappointed.
