So if there is almost no cement, wood supplies, steel in all it’s forms how the hell is the building industry, let alone the smaller firms, managing. HS2 can’t be hovering up everything. Why is there almost no cement available, wood etc? Is HS2 eating up all the chocolate flakes as well?

Apparently there's two factors for the cement shortage.
One of the big factories had an unplanned shutdown - the other(?) two are due planned shutdowns next month.
and....
the factory for the plastic bag manufacturer that produces most of the retail 25kg bags in China burnt down.
That and the Suez blockage and the massive spikes in the economies of China and USA as lockdowns are being relaxed are producing somewhat of a perfect storm.

I think the flake issue is more of a UK thing though.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Proper 1 cwt bags are what you need - and none of this plastic stuff!

At the end of this month I will have been waiting 23 weeks for a windows and door delivery. I am glad I paid for them in advance as the price has increased by 24% since the order. It is almost 30k worth of goods.
I need one 4m length of 15 x 15 cm oak and have been told three weeks! Two of my suppliers are completely out of rafters and simular sized wood and can't tell me when they will get anymore.

Well, last of my stock of 6x1 sarking has been taken away by the nephew.
The usual timber merchant is saying likely July delivery and the last 10 lengths of it at the local Jewsons were procured by said nephew today.
The sarking is 'made' in Fort William and the timber lorries are doing swift business out the back of us but I wonder if there is a knock-on shortage of whatever chemicals they tanalise with these days?
I'm starting to wonder we should be using security headed screws to secure the boards with rather than #2 posi!
Oh, our new Kune Kune pig is called Terry, on account of his brown and orange colouring!
Not sure we should be naming our pigs though, seeing as they end up on our dinner table.
