But why do you need them if the cars still in warranty.

Depending on the Euro emission std for your car it may not put a caution light on when an EGR fails....so you get to suffer poor performance and economy for free until the next service IF the dealer spots it then.

You then assume that I don't know how my car feels I do know when its poorly trust me, The point is that surely if you do this mod the stealer will try and use it as a get out of jail free card if they see fit. Now if your car is out of warranty then its a whole different ball game to which this blanking / egr fix could be an answer Thumbs Up

Have been following this thread, I too would like to do this mod as I've never seen the point of putting all that crud into a nice new engine, but I have to agree with Ken

So I think I'll keep it in mind should I have the EGR failure.
I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

Plenty of posts refer to general poor mpg/performance type issues that creep on over a length of time, there isn't necessarily a cliff-edge change in performance or mpg and the valves can (each) intermittently stick as well as (presumably) fail, some cars may end up with both failed, some only with one.

I wasn't commenting on your particular understanding of how your car feels as your question was posed in general, obviously EGRs fail to differing degrees and drivers notice different levels of degradation as a result...
 Cheers

07 and later cars will get the engine fault lights on dash within a short while of their EGR starts playing up. On earlier cars you are more likely to see a gradual erosion of power that can go unnoticed, or perhaps be attributed to those new tyres/expo rack/dirty intercooler/supermarket fuel/three wise man holding on to your rear bumper. The car may still have stored fault codes, but nothing that will warrant a light on the dash.

With dealers charging for diagnostic time when no warrantable faults are found, I'm not keen to put my car in at the dealers with a "it's a bit sluggish and thirsty" if the response is "well we left it in the corner talking to the diagnostic machine but nothing obvious sir. That will be £120 please sir". That's why I'm getting a cheapy OBDII reader so I can review fault codes myself BEFORE I go to the dealer. I also want to see if any fault codes change or appear once the plates are fitted. I'll then decide if I want to keep them in or wait until warranty expires next year.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Do these work with the D3 as I tried one on a Freelander and P38, neither communicated with unit? Crying or Very sad

United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

After yesterday's little drive (only about 600 miles) I'm going for the blanking plates. On a couple of occasions I suffered a brief "bog down" on dry, straight roads when I wanted a "big bootful" to get past a slower vehicle, the bog down was followed by a "big black burp" then all was well for a few miles. This sounds exactly the problem others have expected/described with an over enthusiastic EGR.

Question A quesion for 10fc - which OB reader are you looking at - I'm thinking the same in few months when mine pops out of waranty. Question
