Back after Crankshaft failure
Well after 11 months of ownership, the engine ate itself last February while the missus was driving, luckily slow moving traffic, unluckily blocking the entire country road. There are some right arses about, shouting and going.
Anyway after making my way out, the car was throwing battery errors so didn't think it was a major issue until the wife explained the almighty crunching noise from the car when it died.
I decided to get it towed to my local LR dealer for diagnosis, knowing full well a big bill was on its way or trying to source an engine from somewhere. A couple of days later, phonecall from dealer saying yes, the engine was goosed and the estimate was £16k
The car is 15 plate, 57000 miles, 4 owners and a mixture of indy and LR services. The dealer explained they would put the case to LR, so I had to send all the paperwork over to them. I didn't hold out much hope. But low and behold after 2 weeks they came back with an offer of 80% contribution, so taking into account a major service and Cam belt job was due, I jumped at it. So about 1500 quid out of pocket.
Unfortunately, delays in parts and a certain conflict meant the car sat in LR for 5 months, but the dealership was fantastic with the claim and supplied me with a courtesy car, and threw in new batteries for the Disco as it was sat for so long.
Now i know we hear about horror stories and dealer bashing, but the dealer was brilliant and did well in my opinion to get an 80% contribution on a new engine for me.
So am happy to have the new engine, certainly tell the difference and from the experience they have managed to keep a customer in the LR brand. They will certainly get my future custom.

Good lord, you've done well there, you should feel very happy with that outcome.
Not that it should be down to luck for TDV6 owners, they should all be covered for this design fault, but I'm glad you had a happy tale to tell (mostly) D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten
