Mannol 7511 is not listed as being to the Ford 913 spec that the D3 (non DPF) needs.

Mannol 7707 is their Ford 913 spec oil.

Run vw longlife spec 5/30 c3 in mine seems fine @ 154k.

Tried 5/40, the start up timing chain tinkle went on for quite a bit longer on 5/40 than it did on the 5/30, people tell me it should be the same, but I can only say what I heard for weeks until I went back to the 5/30.

Lynall what spec was the 5w40?

The Ford spec HTHS is 2.9. No way I would run this in a high compression diesel that I wanted long life (high miles) from.

Have a look at this comparison between the Ford spec oil and VW 504/507

Tbh I cannot remember I would assume it was A5 but might have been c3 as that is what the wifes car uses as hers has a dpf.

While it started as a diesel thread, I’ve used Mannol 7707 5W-30 in my V8. It’s a good brand and the price is very reasonable - a 10 liter “keg” was around 5 eur/liter (and I need 7.7 liters). Thumbs Up

Mannol’s TDS says it is “recommended” for WSS-M2C913-B, https://www.mannol.de/create-pdf/313/en.

I did not realize that, while Mannol is a German brand, the production is really in Lithuania which the MSDS reveals, https://sct-online.sct-germany.de/SCTAppro...511_EN.pdf.

I started using a Penrite 5W30 but switched on advice by my Indie to Penrite 5W 40.
The engine has now done 410K KMS and pulls like a train.

Hi, how does PENRITE HPR5 5 40 work? I would like to put it in my 2009 LR3, manual.

5W40 is not "wrong" as it is used in the same engine but in other applications, it's just not LR spec.

That would only then be an issue if you were to try and take up an issue with LR but given the age of the vehicle how far would you get with them even if the "right" oil was being used.

The LR time videos are a bit tongue in cheek but despite his detractors Christian knows more than most ( including most of the detractors) so I would have no problems taking his advice.
A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

thanks for your advice. I hope I make the right choice by putting the Penrite. Anyway, I hope I don't cause any damage!
