Glow plug fault

Ref Robbie article, brilliant as usual
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic130145...=Glow+plug

Now in the Alps at -10 I have starting problems, so checked out glow plugs using above articles.
TDV6 2.4 Engine
Time with light on dash correct with ambient temp.
Checked resistance of ECT probe, correct for ambient temp.
Only one on one side and 2 on other side working (drawing current).
Checked voltage on all 6 at disconnected plug, all ok
Checked with link wire direct from battery with clamp meter, same results with the same 3 not working.
Current drain at 15A reducing within a few seconds as coil self regulates (on working ones)

Now here is the strange bit.
Resistance of all 6 is 8.9 Mohms
Measured with Fluke DMM.

I knew I should never have become an electronics engineer
3 RR Classics (last one broke off-road) All gone
S3, take off road, break, repair, repeat. Gone
Disco 2, for sale, 12 month MOT, next one looking expensive (r)
Hence
Disco 3, already electrickery faults

Measure resistance when they are cold. (The working ones can turn themselves off)

If you are stranded you can poor boiling water onto the coolant temp sensor to get you home (or use 2K-5k resistor )

Last person to get stranded while skiing ordered a remote FBH start to get them home.

I had to do the hot water trick a couple of times and it does work. Turns out 5 out 6 of my plugs aren't working! I've actually got Clive (CDS4X4) changing mine as I write this. I also got the FBH remote which has helped in the meantime. Good luck hope the hot water trick works for you too!

I think the hot water is better than shorting it!

At least the ecu will go back to reading actual temp on that run.
With a shorted connector the ecu will be considering it invalid.

If he used a resistor of anything between 5000 ohms and 24000 ohms that puts the temp gauge above cold and below Normal and you get no High temp warning and its starts.
