Down under we have a habit of cutting down tall Poppies. Georgian > Colonial.
I stuck wind shields on our car so can leave all 4 windows open a bit & it's not visible. Also use window socks when there are mosquitoes.
Great when it's raining as we sleep in the car & still have ventilation. Also leave a bit open on hot days for the fridge.
Ironically I was told that the even though I had to import the wind shields from UK, they are apparently made here. Ridiculous.Visitor - Freelander owner

Must say what a fantastic build
Seems those window vents are become harder to obtain, however was very lucky as managed to buy some a while back

As previously mentioned, I had a good re-think on how to mount the battery.
So decided to ditch the initial attempt and gain a solid floor mount to start off with.
This was the initial issue ... this big grommet, so I removed it.
But before starting, I need to get all my cabling in.

So offered the solar panel up to the roof, only to check out where the cabling should go to.

Ran the cabling down the roof rails, trimmed the plastic end piece and dropped it down the upper tailgate jam.
cabling will be tidied up once the panel is fitted

Then down the length of the tailgate, I zip tied the cables together, left the tails on, detached the rubber seal, trapped in the zip tie tails then fitted the seal back down.

At the base, I turned the cable around and fed through the gap between the bumper and bodywork ...

Then up through the floor [where the big grommet was].
Got that section of cable fed into some high temp [500deg] sleeving, as it's close to the exhaust, but behind its heat shield.
Also started feeding through the red Battery cable, starting from the opposite rear passenger door.

Then cut a section of plastic a to replace the big grommet, installed two small grommets for the Solar cables, then siliconed down and bolted in place until tomorrow, then using longer bolts, I'll bolt down through a wooden floor plate I made earlier.

Other small job was to remove the small light I had at the rear of my upper basket, install it at the top of the passenger windscreen .... as that'll be my sitting room in inclement weather.

and installed another led strip light, this time to the rear of the basket.
So I have a bright one at the other end, for when using the drop down tailgate, and a warmer one at this end for the 'bedroom'.

Why not put the second battery in the front by the servo manifold? It involves moving the gubbins in the box but its not difficult. You can then run thinner cables to the rear.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

If only I could …… not a lot of room in there at all.
Also, the YT I’ve got is the 75ah ….. and it’s huge.
Now though, very confident in the new solution I’ve got….. but got an unexpected issue re attaching the side boxes.
Time for the “grey matter” to churn things over and get a solution for that.

Ron looks to have a Stop/Start where yours is Moo hence his issue. My D4 2012 also has the yellow top where yours is Moo.

Here’s a footprint of my YT laid over the area.
As well as the stop-start gubbins, looks like I’d also need to remove the brake servo.
So come to the obvious conclusion, it’s a non starter.

Can't you use 2 x 75AH batteries, one in the front & one in the back. The same reason I'm using 4 x 26AH batteries.Visitor - Freelander owner

Keep up at the back there.
The last few posts were proposing that I maybe site my battery in the front.
My last post illustrates just how that’s totally impossible with my YT 75ah.
But my new structure in the rear is coming along great and so far fills me with confidence.
More on that soon. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

was extremely impressed with what u done with regards to the boot battery , hats off to u
As a side note thought I saw someone remove there rear seats , then fitted a couple of batteries inside boxes in the space , alas can’t remember who it was
Following with great interest as seen you’ve come up with some very inventive ideas , imagine u was also very nervous when u fitted ur Airline rails with drilling through the panel

Thanks for that Garry, but I really do still want to keep it (as it was intended) a 7 seater.
Plus with all the rear seats folded down ….. that’s the space I need for bedding down.
So removing that undulating bung and plating over with bonded in Perspex, that’s given me the ideal base to build on.
Made up a mdf base board, then bolted down over the Perspex.
Then made an “H” support, dowelled & glued it in place (couldn’t get in with a screwdriver and wouldn’t go in assembled).
Was also able to fit the relay there, an ideal place and saves space where all the other bits need to go.

Had some thick deadening left over from when I blacked out my 3 glass roof sections, so used it on the inner wing & wheel arch to give some extra protection, deadening and a bit of heat retaining when camping.
Also screwed down the floor plate made earlier.

Placed the battery to see how it fits and how stable it is, and it does the job great.
So next job is to lock the base in place and secure down……

…. and next is to get the inverter fitted, so offered it up to check the space available.
So will need to drill, secure some brackets, then add a mounting board.
