Whining coming from aux belt area |
|
Hi folks,
Had a brief nose around the engine trying to diagnose a whining coming from the front of the engine block.
Whining is constant (except when idling, practically stops) and matches the revs in all gears.
Suspected power steering pump or something else on aux drive belt, tensioner and idle pulleys all seem fine but any pointers would be helpful.
I might add the steering has been notchy recently and that's been narrowed down to the lower steering rack UJ getting stiff, so I guess there's every chance the pump has packed in now it's working harder...

I’ve narrowed it down to the AC compressor pulley bearing.
Managed to keep it going a little longer with WD40 and spray silicone lubricant but I think it’s time I bit the bullet and replaced the compressor.
I’d have a go at changing the pulley and bearing if it weren’t for the stripped head on the retainer bolt 🥺
