Best place to get a recon or new transfer box |
|
so
seems chain in transfer box is slipping in ol yog#4
I can easily replicate it by giving the beans on an incline 🚙💨
so taking to my local very trusted indie
not to get one from online scrappers as mileage unknown / guaranteed
even with a 30 day warrantee it's not worth the hassle
so i'm after a refurbed unit or even new, dependant on prices
seen loads of various services on google
no mega rush as 99% time I can drive around it
but after forum recommendations
cheers guys

I think Island 4x4 do new txfr boxes, ( at least for 6 speed ZF auto boxes). NOT 8 speed. POA though and I have not bought anything from them, so not sure what type of outfit they are, I’m afraid. Others may be able to help with that one. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Mine is making all sorts of noises (at least i hope it is the transfer box )
I paid 100 quid for a used one that looks to be fine on the bench, i will fit that and rebuild my own box when time allows, there is basic rebuild kits about
like this:
https://www.bristoltransmissionsshop.co.uk...t-58-p.asp
the chains are about £120
Im yet to find the clutch packs, but IMO if going to the trouble of changing all the bearings and chain you must also change the clutch pack while your at it.

So I went for a salvaged unit from Oxford 4x4 breakers £170 delivered!
It’s been a couple of weeks and few hundred miles since this was fitted by my indi with new fluid
The car is so much quieter & tighter drive line feeling now
Old one is sat in shed awaiting either a mick strip down just to be nosey
Or local gearbox guru rebuild it so I can flog it on maybe
