Another former Saab owner here! One thing I miss is the way the cabin air system made these little "pop" sounds when you changed the settings and the vacuum switches operated. That and the reassuringly solid clunk when you shut the doors.
More worryingly, I have just searched the DVLA for the reg of the 1984 Saab 900 that I scrapped about 20 years ago and see that it is listed as being on a SORN. It was definitely scrapped, but I remember getting a car-tax reminder from DVLA and having to sort with them the fact that it had been scrapped. I'm wondering if I am still the registered keeper and all they did back then was shift me to a SORN? Previously:
2010 FL2 TD4e GS
β93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW - still got this, non-runner on SORN.
β87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol
β83 110 CSW V8 - best ever!
Range Rover 2-door V8 (not sure of year - 4-speed box and vacuum diff switch)
Series III SWB Diesel

Great story and a lovely car, Nick.
Best wishes to your son as he starts his Mechanical Engineering course at Uni.
Always wanted a 9-5 HOT Aero estate, myself. Still probably the most comfortable seats of any car I travelled in.

Nice, hope he enjoys it. They are super easy to work on.
Also love the daft but quirky centre ignition switch and locking it in reverse to move the key.

Cheers FF and great to meet up. I know your son will love it and I look forward to buying it back when heβs finished Uni π
Finally this has actually been a great forum entry and thanks for all the comments. It appears quite a few forum members have previously owned and love a Saab. Have a good weekend all π
