MY15 Stop/Start

Hello everybody.

Well I have now have my awesome Disco sat in the drive and after pouring then rough the manual I have a question. Being a MY15 it has the horrid stop/start but after covering 350 miles in the last week it have never kicked in.

I have even attmepted to create the perfect conditions, no stereo or AC but the engine happily idles without cutting out. I have read the manual but nothing seems to suggest that it shouldn't kick in but I didn't know if it doesn't kick in for the first 1000 miles or something random.

Now to be honest I prefer it not working but if something is broken then I think I should get it looked into. I guess the battery should be fully charged out of the factory and after 300 odd miles...

Will get a photo up today to show off the new pride and joy, or obviously it never happened Laughing

Mine worked from collection but I must admit it seems to have a mind of its own, often it does not seem to stop and then 5 minutes later it does, I have also noticed when at a Red light it stops but then restarts itself again before I have released foot brake? I am wondering if I have a dodgy switch as 3 times now when starting in the morning it has failed to turn over but by releasing the brake and reapplying it then starts. Thumbs Up

You have to use sufficient brake pressure Smile ...here's a description of how it works Thumbs Up

Quote:
INTELLIGENT STOP/START

The Intelligent stop/start system is designed to
improve fuel efficiency and is automatically
activated when the ignition is turned on. Unless
it is required to support other vehicle systems,
the engine will turn off if the vehicle is stopped,
for example, at traffic lights. When the brake
pedal is released and a drive gear is selected,
the engine will restart automatically.
During operation of the Intelligent stop/start
system, a warning lamp will illuminate. See 45,
INTELLIGENT STOP/START (GREEN).

Always disable intelligent stop/start
before wading.
To activate an automatic engine stop:
• Stop the vehicle from a speed greater than
4 km/h (2.5 mph) and apply sufficient brake
pressure to make sure the vehicle is
stationary.
• Alternatively, while stationary, select Neutral
(N).
To activate an automatic engine restart, release
the brake pedal with Drive (D) or Sport (S)
selected.

The engine will also restart if one of the
following occurs:
• Intelligent stop/start is deactivated.
• The accelerator pedal is pressed.
• A shift paddle is used to select a gear.
• The steering wheel is turned.
• Reverse (R) is selected.
• Climate control system demand increases.
• The vehicle’s speed exceeds approximately
1 km/h (0.5 mph).
• Battery charge becomes low.
• Brake vacuum has been reduced (e.g., using
the brake pedal repeatedly with the engine
off).

The following conditions will prevent an
automatic engine stop:
• A shift paddle has been used to select a
gear.
• The external temperature is less than
approximately 0°C (32°F).
• The external temperature is more than
approximately 40°C (104°F).
• The engine has not reached operating
temperature.
• The driver’s seat belt is not fastened.
• The Climate control system demand
requires the engine to be running (for
example, in Defrost mode).
• The battery charge is low.
• The bonnet is opened.
• Intelligent stop/start is deactivated.

Note: If, during an automatic engine stop, the
driver's seat belt is removed and the brake pedal
is released, the vehicle's engine will turn off and
Park (P) will engage.

DEACTIVATING INTELLIGENT STOP/
START
To switch the system off, press the ECO switch.
See 298, DRIVER CONTROLS.
Note: The engine will restart automatically if the
switch is pressed while an automatic engine
stop is in progress.
To confirm that the system is off, the message
ECO Stop/Start Off is momentarily displayed in
the Message centre.
Note: The Intelligent stop/start system will
automatically reactivate the next time the
ignition is turned on.
If the ECO switch is pressed while there is a
fault, the message Eco Stop/Start Not Available
is displayed.

DRIVER EXIT
To prevent the vehicle from being inadvertently
left in a driveable condition, the vehicle will
detect when a driver is not present, and
automatically turn off the ignition.
If Drive (D) or Sport (S) is selected, the Driver
exit feature will turn the vehicle's ignition off if
the following conditions exist:
• The driver's seat belt is unbuckled.
• The brake pedal is released.
If Neutral (N) or Park (P) is selected, the Driver
exit feature will turn the vehicle's ignition off if
the driver's seat belt is unbuckled.
Once the vehicle's ignition has been turned off,
the vehicle can be locked. For more information

Yep definitely not working. Tried putting it in neutral and nothing. Also tried stamping on the pedal at the red lights and nothing.

So will have to go back to the dealers Big Cry

Fb the only reason i really want the dealer to look at it, is just incase something is actually broken thats stopping the stop/start system from working. If i could guarantee that it was purely that the system is deactivated them i might just leave it but if something more sinister is going on i want to know now.

Will let everyone know what i find out on Weds.

(slight thread hijack)
I'm assuming it's not easy/possible to retrofit to earlier model years?

Well slight update. The dealer agrees that the stop/start does not work but cannot find a fault in the system. Therefore they don't know why it's not working. Big Cry

They have contacted LR HQ to see if they have an answer but not heard anything back (I assume maybe they are busy with the ABS/fridge recall?). Will get the car back tomorrow no matter what, as I need it for the weekend, but after two days at it they seem they stumped.

Alright guys,

Just want to get your opinion on something. So i heard back from the dealer today and they still don't know why the Stop/Start isn't working. They sent off the diagnostic info to LR and they did not know of any problem with the D4 MY2015 Stop/Start. Therefore LR have given the dealer a list of part to start stripping components until they find something thats broken. Confused Stupidly i didn't ask exactly what was on the list of things they are going to strip!

The dealer reckons that will take them two days to complete the investigation (so thats starting to sound like a lot of stuff to start stripping down). After that i assume if they find a problem it will take them time to replace the part.

My concern is that the car is only 21 days old and it has spend the last 3 of those back in the dealer and will spend at least the next 4 with them too. Additionally i can't get loan car while this work take place.

While i am generally a calm person i feel they are blindly ripping my new car to bits while i am carless. I am beginning to think think about the dreaded Rejection word but am I flying off the deep end too soon? I was going to give them to the 24th and then kick up a fuss but is that too lenient?

Have you asked them for a replacement car? You could contact LR Customer services and see what they can do.

When my new D4 had to go in for work soon after I got it, the Dealer Principle lent me his Range Rover for two days.

At the moment I have just spoken to the Service rep and I asked for was a loaner vehicle while mine was with the dealer. But they quickly came back with one isn't available. So I could either take mine back or have no car (a great choice there then!).
