Make that a minority of two!
We've had two 6sp and two 8sp and, by far, I prefer the more laid back 6sp over the far too frantic 8sp. Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
Previously:
TD5 Defender 110 CSW (230k miles)
300TDi Disco 1 (289k)
4 RR Classics (300-350k each, 2 manual, 2 auto)
110 V8 CSW (220k)
S3 109 hi cap pickup (ex RN)
S2A 88 Safari SW with lpg conversion (bloody lethal)

I have both at the moment, 6sp in D3 and 8sp in 110. Have had D4 8sp before as well. I like both, if they are in good shape they both work well. I had a D3 TDV6 before which had a converter judder, but once fixed it was working well again.
Can't see the point of a conversion unless for the fun of the conversion project itself, the difference is not that big to justify.
In the RRC I have the 3sp autobox, that is something! Defender 110 SE 2021, Tasman Blue
Discovery 1 V8 ES 1997, Epsom green
Discovery 3 V8 HSE 2006, Bonatti Grey
Range Rover V8 1983, Sierra Silver
