Noise when lift off the accelerator |
|
Hi , I have a terrible noise , comes between engine and gearbox only when I lift off the accelerator, maximum 2/4 seconds. No other issue , just noise , loud enough to make me alert .
Any idea ?

Hard to pick on description only, but possibly an exhaust leak

Is it like a rattle?
If so, I had a google as mine does it and it looks like its the torque converter. Nothing to worry about I think as mines been like it for ages.

Don’t lift off the accelerator It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Mine makes a slight rattle when there is no load. Not on acceleration, or deceleration but in between. Any ideas on that?

Afternoon........ recently bought a 55 plate Disco 3 and I'm having similar sounding issues which are becoming quite loud & bloody annoying.
Did however find a video on YouTube which is identical to the issues I'm having.....any thoughts in what this could be would be greatly appreciated.

Audio isnt great, but there's a "woosh" type noise almost like a wastegate but also mechanical sounding.
Took the car to MJ Services near Wootton Bassett & Mark there couldnt find any fault, I'm not convinced as the noise is getting progressively worse & is quite bad after the cars up to temperature.
Again............any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers

Afternoon..............
Nah only when underload & lifting off the accelerator. Seems okay for a few minutes when cold but starts doing it once the car warms up a bit.

Mine does it, always has done. Does definitely seem to be getting "worse".
Everything I've researched points to torque converter.
If you read around the site, general consensus is that it is the torque converter slowly failing, and at some point if you leave it too long it will take itself and the gearbox to a place that demands a full rebuild. Cheers,
Gareth

Hard to tell TBH............the audio in the clip is like a mechancial woosh.
I'm obviously tuned into it as I've been listening to it for the past 4 weeks
Did initialy think torque converter, the turbo or even a knackered CV joint or some other part of the drivechain, However mechanic reckons that everything is hunky dory.
Maybe a second opinion & test drive with a another garage is needed. Not overally concerned but dont want teh old girl packing up on me.
