Diff breathers?
I'm not what you would call mechanically minded and I have heard that it's good to raise your diff breathers to a high location in your car so that they don't get water in them when doing water crossings.
I asked my dealer a long time ago, but he didn't even know where they were. Does anyone know? Does the D3 even have them? Are they high enough already? The diff breathers are already raised in the D3.
Front one is on the passenger side between the radiator and the power steering resevoir.
I think the rear one is behind one of the rear light clusters.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I think the rear one goes up to the fuel filler neck, may just be attached to it rather thanfed in but it goes plenty high enough above wading height

Steel rims
d34me I see from a photo in the main gallery, you have steel rims on
your D3. A few questions;
1) Do you find them suitable for extreme off roading.
2) What is the loading spec.
3) What do they cost.
I've been trying to source a 17" steel rims here, but the closest I can get is 17.5 ,
and I don't want to go bigger.

When I inquired earlier this year, they were about AU$125 each.
I'll let others comment on their ability - I don't have them... yet!
Cheers,
Rob

Discoeast,
Not sure of the loading specs, but my D3 is now pushing the 3.2-3.3 tonne level and I've had no problems.
With the off roading aspect, again I've had no problems. I scraped against a large rock on the weekend and it only chipped a bit of steel off. With the LR alloys, I think I would have done some major damage.
Concerning the price. I paid $130AUD each, which is much less than the $1700AUD for the LR alloys. (I'd rather replace a steel wheel than an alloy.)

I have a new set of the dynamic wheels, going bush for the first time this weekedn, I have Cooper St's on them. They are built specifically to replace std D3 wheels, only come in silver and you must remember to ask for the wheel nuts when you order the wheels, I got them locally set of 6 with nuts just under $900 including freight.
All the best
