"There is a transmission fault" |
|
Afternoon all,
My Disco has twice popped up a message in the last week - something along the lines of..."There is a transmission fault. Only some gears will be available" or words to that effect.
On both occassions my wife (for it was she that was driving) has pressed on the couple of miles home & on each occassion the message has disappeared on re-starting the car.
Booked into Colliers in North Birm - but only on next Tues.
Anyone had this?
Should we be worried?
Should we be driving it?
Any comments gratefully received.
Thks, TDV6 HSE, Zermatt silver, Black leather, sidesteps, Very much a learner - 1st ever 4x4!

My dads automatic had a fault like this, although it happened on the very first day he took delivery of with only about 30 mls on the clock. wasn't moving up through gears properly but would reset and work fine for a few minutes after switching off/on the engine. Back to the dealer and a new gearbox, apparently it had been assembled incorrectly

Yeah, I've had the same as you DC.
Don't be too alarmed. It sounds harsh but is normally something very simple with the software. Hasn't happened to me for a while now. Don't worry about it unless it comes on permanently and you really can only select a couple of gears. If so, stop, turn off, leave it a minute or two and then start again. The D3 is like your PC sometimes-if it doesn't do what you want, turn the plug off and it'll normally sort the problem out when you fire it up again! Welcome to the club of low mpg offset by a great feeling! Don't be paranoid.........'They' don't like it!!!!!!!

Hi,
I had a similar prroblem but mine extended to the terrian management sytem and the DSC plus the audio system locking up. The problem would correct itself on restarting or pulling the right fuse in the case of the audio system. The cause appears to have been a battery that was not fully conditioned on the delivery of the Disco. LR Australia seem to know about the problem. As I do not use the vehicle each day I have connected a trickle charge unit to the battery and have not had a problem since.
