Maybe the Arctic owners don't need a fuel cooler. Perhaps a two foot length of pipe lagging from B&Q will solve it.

A snippet from the workshop manual about the fuel cooler -
The fuel cooler uses engine coolant, direct from the lower part of the radiator, to cool fuel returning to the tank from the HP injection pump.
The fuel cooler is located on the right hand side of the chassis, at the rear of the engine, near to the starter motor. A bracket, which is attached to the right hand chassis rail, provides for the attachment of the cooler. The bracket has two slots which accept two plastic pegs which are attached to the cooler. A bolt is inserted through a hole in the bracket and screws into a captive nut on the cooler to positively secure the cooler to the bracket.
The cooler has four quick fit connector pipes which provide for the attachment of the fuel inlet hose from the HP injection pump, the fuel outlet hose to the fuel filter, the coolant inlet hose from the radiator and the coolant outlet hose to the coolant thermostat housing. The coolant pipes can be identified by their smaller diameter
So it doesn't sound like the pipe I was on about is involved which means I'm now on a mission to find out what it does do! The End

OK, I saw it when I was fitting my spotlamps, and I did not give it a second thought at the time, but if you want my guess, it is something to dowith the aircon.

Anyway, it would appear that wherever the components are, there is a problem with the D3 in extremely low temps. You would have thought that Land Rover would have tested in such climates, so any design flaw as obvious as this should have been ironed out.
Makes the current TV ad campaign seem a bit weak. I bet the eskimo's huskeys don't stop at minus 27

We have decent Winter Diesel in Finland |
|
Gas stations in Finland have only been selling Winter qualified (down to -35) Diesel since October, meaning that all of us should have only that in our cars. In Northern part of Finlandm the gas stations change to Winter quality already at September.

The reason for my experiance was probably fuel freezing. My dealer informed that they had yesterday two other D3 having the same symptoms. Today I have had no problems and the temperature is -20C.
It seems that there are variations of the winter grade specification among the fuel stations. Most of the big brands sell winter grade that is usabe down to -32 or -35 but some have only -25.
Blame the wife: I usually fill up the tank from selected stations that sells the -32/35 grade winter diesel. My wife, who is more economcal than I am, confessed that she did fill some diesel from a station that has lower prices than the one next to it. Of course she did not remebered the name of the station but after some pressure she was able to tell the location of it.
I went to look at athe station, and in deed, their winter grade was -25C.

I can't even imagine that temperature. So LR seem to be exhonourated. What do you do if it falls below -32? Is it just a matter of waiting for the temperature to rise before you can use the car? What happens to the country as a whole, does it just grind to a halt? Or is it very rare? Global warming is good isn't it DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

*SIGH*
My Friday...
First thing in the morning I went to see my LR dealer. They said that the current SW version has a bug that would explain the behaviour. And yes, it has something to do with these temperatures. Fortunately LR had released a new SW version which fixes this bug. OK, with new version uploaded I happily drive away. After 40 km tha car s is being looked at by stalls again!!!!! And again... and again... In the next 8 km the car stalls 5 times.
A call to the dealer. They called the local importer. Result: I now drive a bloody Hyundai and the Disco is being looked at by the importer...
