Fuel filter change

Thanks for that I always go 4x4 height but even then there’s not really enough room. I will try with front of car at top of drive as when I tried it was at the bottom & so a bit down because of the slope.
Thanks again
Tom

Front and rear diff oil changes

Tagged this on here as the pictorial on procedure from way back is useful.

Another task on the V8 ‘upcycling project’ is diffs we have changed virtually everything else. What a technical minefield on choice of diff oils to use? A big thanks to Tim at Opie and we await the Castro Transmax…. There are now so many oils with GL4 and GL5 my questions of is one better than the other. Very confusing market place GL5 appears to be the key spec.

OMG Time Flies

I just dug out this thread to remind me how to change the fluids. My first / last post on this thread was October 2013. Here I am 9 years later doing the same jobs to the same 2005 D3. I have also dusted of Bodsey's brake bible to check a couple of things whilst changing the front brake pads.

Not sure if I will be doing this again in another 9 years!

Hi guys,

what oil do you recommend for both diffs, should be the same, am I right ? I found on the castrol site this one : and if someone can confirm the capacity .

front : Castrol TRANSMAX Axle Long Life 75W-90 - capacity 0.61 l
rear : Castrol TRANSMAX Axle Long Life 75W-90 - capacity 1.1 l

thanks a lot !

Volumes are correct. It’s the same oil for front differential and the regular rear differential, yes.

That oil will work, 75W-90 API GL-5 is what it needs to be. You can use cheaper oil than Castrol if you want. Any brand meeting the spec will be fine.

Ravenol DTF-1 (old product name was Ravenol TF-0870) will work. Transfer box volume is 1.5 liters. It is just as easy to empty and fill as the diffs.

As for gearbox…. Well… search the forum. Plenty of different methods to do it. Personally I’d megaflush but there isn’t really a clear consensus.

And please update your vehcle type in your profile. People won’t have to guess what you’re driving so any responses to questions tends to be more accurate. Whistle
