How do you maualy release this when it sticks on? I have read in another thread of a way to do it but it didn't say how. Is it somthing to do with a cable? thanks

i bought my D3 in nov '08 with only 8000 miles, all good until feb '09 when the automatic handbrake failed,along with that the reverse sensors, reverse light and gear display, but the handbrake will work manually. after having the xyz switch re calibrated and then a further 5/6 times(same problem), they finaly decided to drop out the gear box and do something with the magnet?all under warranty thankfully. it has continued to happen a further 4 times to which im now getting quite annoyed, so they had someone come out from LR and decided it was the clutch, and fitted a new one, that fixed it for about 6 weeks this time which is a record for them as it usually occured every 2 weeks, or in one case the next day!im now waiting to take it in again after xmas as it broke again and failed to be aplied,crashing through my driveway gates, what can i do or insist they do as this is beyond a joke by now and i only really drive the car at the weekends as i have a work van.

Had all these problems several times and thankfully County Land Rover in Devon have done them all under warranty.
LR Customer relations have sent me a letter thing with a breakdown of the issues as my 58 was bought new and was only 9 months old by the time it had its 6th Warranty repair.
THe Brake Servo Failure - is a total recall...anyone not had a recall letter yet should call there local dealer.
The EPB does have a self-bedding in and cleaning process, which is somewhere on this forum (thats for the squelling noise and EPB jamming on)
The XYZ sensor recaibration is..according to LR a driver error (which I argued about) we all seem to be slipping the clutch which is whats causing the repeated problem. However an insider told me that 95% of D3's will expect this XYZ thing....so 95% of drivers ride the clutch....I think its a design fault and we need to all continue to hammer LR about it until they do indeed recall it!Once a Disco, always a Disco...and I love my Disco
Electronic Parking Brake failure and lack of spares
My July 08 Disco 3 SE has just been in again for problems with the electronic parking brake. The first time was in early December, "yes the EPB module is faulty but Landrover have no spares!" told to bring it in today (12/01/10), "Yes its still faulty and still no spares sir and by the way you are going to have to have your long range fuel tank removed as the EPB unit is located above the rear axle.and the long range tank occupies the space were the spare wheel normally goes". After discussing this with the chief mechanic at my dealers he agreed that Landrover have no idea about making a car serviceable, in his experience they have had to lift the rear of the body off the chassis to get at the EPB units fixing bolts when they have seized - very bad design. It is about time Landrover dumped the electronic parking brake and returned to a good old mechanical hand brake. I have spoken to several independent Landrover specialists who believe that Landrover should put the Parking Brake onto the normal servicing schedule, yes it will mean that it takes 2 hours longer for the service, but how much will it save them in cost and reduced aggravation of customers. If any one else has had similar issues with the lack of spares for the EPB please email me.Mike

My Disco 3 V8 HSE has just been in for its 60K service (even though its only done 33k mile!!!!) when I went to collect it from the dealer they sat me down and then told me that as they were adjusting the handbrake (part of the serivce apparently) the actuator broke and now I don;t have any handbrake. they then went on to tell me that they have another D3 in the back yard which has been waiting for the same part for 3 weeks!!!! HELP I use my disco for towing horses and can't be without my handbrake for very long - oh yes its going to cost £600 to boot.
Has anyone heard of an actuator braking during service ajustment (there was no problem with the brake before - yes I had screaming back last summer but it was sorted out with a clean) and any ideas where I can get the part from cheaply and quickly?
Hi, I am still waiting for Landrover to OK the under warranty replacement of the parking brake module. The fault first occurred in November 2009. The car has been in the dealers twice now for over 9 days. The actuator is the Parking Brake Module according to the service manual (see http://www.landrovertechinfo.com you will need to subscribe to see the service manual), the screaming you heard was the actuator reaching the limit of its travel and falling off the end of the drive. Cost of the unit is about £300, I have also been told there are no spares available, this is the same situation as in November. I have the added problem of having a second fuel tank fitted were the spare wheel would normally be, I am going to have to pay for it to be removed and refitted as the Parking Brake Module is located above the rear axle.javascript:emoticon('')
With regard to the actuator failing during service , I suspect the module was already at the limit of travel, the rear brake shoes that are part of the hand brake system can be adjusted manually, but the parking brake actuator is calibrated electronically, it probably is not responding to the diagnostic equipment, exactly what mine is doing.
The issue of the parking brake is something that Landrover have been aware of since D3 was launched, guess what the parking brake is on D4 ---yes you guessed correctly - it's the same javascript:emoticon('')unitMike

Hi, i have the same problem of the handbrake sticking on so used the cable to release it how do i go about getting it to work again ,someone told me by pulling the cable it disengages the motor is that correct.
Hi, as far as I can tell, once the hand brake has been released using the "pull cable" you can try engaging the hand brake by pulling up the park brake leaver, however if the system squeals like a stuck pig, switch off the engine and remove the key, you will then need to get the parking brake looked at by your local dealer if under warranty or take it to a Landrover specialist. Once the car has been shut down you can start up again and drive just using the transmission brake. I have been waiting for a replacement Electronic Park Brake module for nearly 3 months now and have been given a date of the 26th Feb for the part to arrive. Apparently it was placed on order as critical part. At least the transmission park brake works and we are not in the same situation as Toyota with over 2.7 million cars recalled world wide due to a faulty brake peddle!

just pulled the switch to put handbrake on get no sound and nothing happens just park brake failure on dash,its like something has been disconected when i pulled the cable.
