I have looked into this further, the cookies being set are identical between FF3 (PC), S4 (PC) and S4 (Mac).
It therefore appears to be an issue with session handling somewhere between Safari 4 and phpbb2 - and it would be hours and hours of effort to put debugging in place, particularly as I can't personally replicate the issue.
Currently, this effort is better spent on other areas of the site, and so I won't look into this further until the uptake of Safari 4 from DISCO3 members is higher and the frequency of reports increases.
I'm afraid that you'll have to put up with re-logging on each time - it's not stopping you using the site entirely, so it is a convenience issue rather than a full site usability problem. I suggest you record the password in Safari's password manager so you have a single click to login.
There's no current solution to stop it happening. If I could replicate the issue then I could do more, but without that there's not much I can do - sorry. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

hey martin, no worries at all, was just letting you know it still happens, figured it was more of a safari issue than a forum issue, am sure as safari 4 updates it will resolve itself,,,

Why is it only this site and not other phpbb2 sites that I use? I'm not suggesting you should be spending hours and hours of work though - just an observation DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Have you tried turning off the fancy most visited sites feature? I found it helped as it keeps going back to each site to get the most recent snapshot. Hence when you actually go to visit Disco3 it thinks you have been there very recently and there are few, if any, recent posts.

So is this just Safari 4 on PPC macs? On Intel machine's it seems sweet.
If so, that points to a problem at our end rather than Martins? 2005 D3 HSE

Strange - I have three Intel macs (10.5.7) and S4 is working fine on all...
Some other software clash with cookies then? 2005 D3 HSE

Dunno... the beta was the same so I went back to S3.
S4 the same as the beta, forcing you to log in after each visit if you've quit Safari or not visited the site for a while.
Even if you leave a tab with the forum open and then go back and hit New Posts... it will suddenly give you a far reduced list or occasionally telling you that there are no new posts.
S3 would always stay logged in and 99% of the time would maintain all threads that you had not read.
Only if you quit or logged out would the New Threads list be reset.
I've looked at Safari's prefs file and tried setting all the Topsites settings to NULL, FALSE or NO. Makes no difference. The damn feature cannot be disabled like it could in the beta.
This as Andy says, I think its due to Safari pinging the forum and thus altering your session times.
Although the staying logged in not sticking is strange.
Have reset Safari, deleted all prefs but still the issue remains.

Cannot be turned off in the release version of Safari 4 or 4.0.1
You could in the beta by entering a Terminal command or setting the pref to Null or No with a prefs file editor.
