I work for FMC. We've got a world-wide chat board at work that covers PAG as well. I'd be happy to put a comment on there about this (and a link to the thread, if that's alright with Martin). We'll see what the Land Rover engineers have to say about this...

Both were tight on the brand new car. However, applied 2-2 drops of medium (gap filling) CA on both screws (one drop between the chassis and the washer, another one between the nut and the washer). Just to be sure Very Happy

Those that thought they were safe - check again

I thought that mine were OK - no movement even when taking the weight of the tailgate and wiggling.

But then I noticed that is was possible to spin the RH washer.

Got a spanner out to tighten but it was a bit fat and it popped the strut off the ball.

With that weight off I could see that the thing was quite loose and required two turns to tighten.

So anyone who just wiggled it to see if it was loose, have a look to see if the washer can spin, or even better get a spanner on it anyway and see if it will tighten.

How is the strut supposed to come off. I can see what appears to be a metal clip - do you prise that off or something?

clip

just put a small screwdriver in the little niche and prise it out only one side then it will come of then tighten it up then pres the clip back on.

Finally got my car back fixed. Very neat repair with no sign of anything having been done.

Guy Salmon have confirmed that an EPQR has been raised, so Land Rover should now be aware of this officially and should issue a new bulletin soon.

Shared this tip last night in Cobham - the 13mm open-ended hex slot of a standard Bicycle Spanner (you remember the one - about 4 inches long and 1 and a half wide with all them holes in it) is perfect for this job if you don't fancy disconnecting the rod - the bicycle spanner is no more than an 1/8" thick

May be they want the repair work! Shocked

REAR DOOR STRUT

Laughing Thanks Gareth. Logged on to Disco 3 site for first time and your message was the first thing I read. You've guessed it! Went outside and sure enough the RH bolt was half way out of it's socket. I pulled off the stay and tightened up the bolt and as I did not have a torque wrench I just went as tight as I dared. Will keep an eye on it and will use locktight if needed.

I checked mine a month ago and both tailgate struts were tight, however I checked them yesterday and the right hand one was very loose Shocked (perhaps I had'nt taken the weight off the tailgate before checking the first time) As I was visiting my LR dealer later in the afternoon I let them take a look, they tightened it up for me and said it could have caused some damage soon if it had not been spotted - Thumbs Up Gareth for letting us all know about this problem.

I initially voted both struts were tight, can't change my vote but it should have been right strut loose.

My Rover has also been to the dealer (3 times in the last six weeks) and they did not see the problem. Do they care? I sometimes wonder. I would like to know what the interface is between Landrover and the dealers as something is far wrong when known faults are ignored or not notified.

Just had a new windscreen fitted as well as tailgate release / rear reg plate unit replaced... and guess what. My nuts were loose again Shocked

Apparently there is a modded part and Shukers have ordered for me.

Also lost my black LR badge so need to source a new RRS SC to knick it from Laughing
