Now what I would find funny is if the owner is on here and finds out the dealer he has sent his car to for an in-car hi-fi swap has had to come to the forum for help...
(And that must surely be a positive endorsement of the collective knowledge on the forum... ) The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Not decided yet.
I'm just trying to figure out if its possible. Ive had a look at the rear of the original unit and i'm seeing fibre optics.
I assume that if i can change the stereo i'll lose the function of the original sat nav.

Not me personally for this issue. But hold on for two other forum members - wiggs and BBS Spy. They have done a lot with the electronics, wiring looms and god knows what else... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

The stereo is connected to the amp and the sat nav via the fiber optics . Sat nav box under the seat is connected to the screen via a GVIF connection.
No speaker wires on the back of the stereo ...all them go through the fiber down to the amp ..then conventional wires from the amp to the speakers .
If you remove the stereo ..it also disables the ability to change the user settings in the little LCD screen on the dashboard .
Others have removed it but left the original stereo hidden away somewere else so the settings can be changed .
Heres a basic run down of the units and the pins ..i have wiring diagrams if that would help you
