Fairlead or not?

Had the standard LR winch fitted at BRS. The setup is the same as Baben's but a fairlead (or wire lead as shown in the photo) was also fitted which I see is not on Baben's setup. I promptly removed the fairlead as it makes my D3 look like a Censored tractor. I still need to protect the wire rope so what do I replace it with?

hls, with the wire rope you will have to stick with the roller type.
As friction/dirt/sharp pulling angles will damage a wire rope with
the smooth type, or go with the synthetic rope and smooth one.
As per Andrew's link Thumbs Up

I dunno why mine was fitted with the steel rope and the smooth fairlead. I would like the roller fairlead, to be honest. My D3 looks like a tractor already Smile

HLS if you want to swop, it will be a pleasure.

Alternatively, Karl at BRS has a new line of synthetic rope and appropriate fairleads on the way. He might be travelling at the moment though

What Koos said . Also you will damage both if you try winch at any sort of angle with a non - roller type

Thanks for the help guys.

The D44 stainless fairlead (Andrews' post) looks good and with the all round smooth edges I cannot see how it will damage synthetic rope even when winching at an angle? Looks like I will be swopping the steel rope for synthetic rope soon (when Karl is back).

Baben, you can have the roller fairlead to upgrade your D3 to tractor status. It may be second hand when you get it though as I am planning to use it when I go to St Lucia between 7 and 10 August. There is a specific spot where I was delayed for 24 hours that needs to be conquered.
