I was going to suggest Nokian tyres, they make three different sorts of non-studded winter (M&S) tyre, two for continental conditions (ie central Europe), the WR G2 and the W+. We run Nokian Hakkapeliitta R's (more Nordic M&S tyre) on the D3 and Subaru Outback and HKPL 5 studded tyres on the MINI, and have run Nokians for years.
And never been stuck. son of less tech-literate 2007 LRD3 owner (unmodified 'arctic frost' TDV6 HSE auto)
