I have had one for years. Used it with the Aussie-issue LR "plough" hitch before getting a Mitchell hitch (which has the forward end closed off). The prime consideration for me is if we're on a remote beach and I lost the key, then it may be a 50km hike to the nearest road to get to help. Losing a key anytime when in a relatively remote place (even a populated place but not close to home base) can be more than bit of bother. Just have to remember to always turn the tumblers to "0000" so the scum won't read the combo and wait for the next visit. i've gtot a similar one dave BUT the issue for me is having to lock it to the underbody of the car,
the hitchsafe looks nice and discreet but still easy to get to,,
I've seen a few people locking those to their door handles...
there was a clip on tinternet showing how to break into them too, kind of like someone posting how to remove a towball one wife.......livid

I have a fixed towbar which has a very handy sized hole. The other option would be to get one of the bike lock cables (some are quite secure and plastic coated) and put through something like your wheel spokes.

Ad, could you not just tec7 a good magnet to the base of that padlock thing and attached it to the underneath of the car - out of sight, should be ok ........ better than something hanging off just looking to be tampered with ?????
may require a good yank to get it off, but shouldnt be a problem for you A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

nice to know russ, still dont see them lasting long in salt round here,
tanters, i usually have it attached to the bar that runs along side the drive shaft ( )
It is well out of view, just haveto lie on the floor to get to it... not much fun in £350 worth of wetsuit rolling around on the tarmac in stones/ glass etc...
it's no biggy, just thought this solution would make good use of tow ball slot when not in use and be secure too..
could always buy an aussie plough and stick it in there but then that wouldnt be too discreet,,,,kinda like the aussies... one wife.......livid

something like this which you could hide inside your wetsuit (small of your back) might work!

I've seen those as well, TBH i dont want to have the key with me, alien object anywhere near ribcage or bones is NOT a good idea as far as I'm concerned.
Only an hour ago i was reminded of why as well, nice battering from my board right where a key would sit...not good.. one wife.......livid
