My D3 managed 24.6MPG last Saturday pulling a Brian James loaded with an MG ZR

We reset it on a full tank before we set off and it returned that which suprised me

Its not even remapped either

anyone had any experience with the petrol V6 and towing?
I've agreed to tow a 24 ft (29 incl drawbar) caravan a bit over 900 kms next weekend and a tad worried the little 6 will really struggle with the hills - as in actually getting up them, not just sucking huge quantities of fuel doing it.
I'd hate to have to use low range on the bitumen - that would give the Toyota Landcruiser drivers way too much joy! Actually, on that, would the disco 3 suffer from axle wind up on bitumen if in low range? Presumably as constant 4wd that would not be the case?

Hello GRT

I have no experience with petrol Discos, But I do use low range occasionally when towing (TDV6). In fact Land Rover recommends that you use low range when in stop/start traffic and towing a heavy trailer, it is in the handbook. I always use low range when manoevering with trailer, no wind-up, centre diff takes care of that. I occasionally drop into low range if I have to do a hill start with 1800 Kg of tintent behind. No problem Thumbs Up

Many thanks UKDen - appreciate that. Just hoping its only a few hills that I may need low range for, not the whole 900km journey!
Mind you the Disco still often surprises me (pleasantly) so maybe it will this time too!
Apparently its 42 degrees today (where the van is located at present) and heating up for the weekend - not the kind of temps I want a breakdown in!
