Irish Disco Commercial - Wine run to France...
Hello fellow Disco lovers. I have an 07 Disco Commerical with Air Suspension (this is not the factory commercial, its one of the converted Irish vehicles - so I am not sure what the floor strength is).
I am considering doing a "Booze-Cruise" to France in January, and am trying to figure out the number of cases of wine that I can fit in and safely carry.
Has anyone done this before? How many cases did u fit in and how was the weight / handling ?
Based on dimensions of my Disco, I can "theoretically" fit in 24 cases on each of 3 layers... thats a tight fit, and is a whopping 72 cases, or 864 bottles of wine. The weight of a bottle of wine is about Kilo - so that pushes my load up to about .9 metric tonnes - will my Disco collapse under that weight ??
I will use empty wine boxes to double check what will fit - its the weight that I am worried about to be honest...
No judgement please on the quantities involved! I plan to split the wine among friends...
All answers and comments are most welcome...SAND coloured! Commercial Discovery - new to all this... loving it!

As one who regularly loads between 800 and 900 kg into the back of his D3 I'd say "No worries". Obviously there is a performance and fuel consumption hit, but you'd expect that. Handling is a little bit softer and if anything the ride a bit better(!) It certainly makes sense to do a dry run with empty wine boxes before setting off as getting to the other end, loading up the trolleys with 72 cases and finding that only 64 will fit the D3 would be a bit of a blow as 8 cases of wine is just a bit much to dispose of in a pleasurable manner before the next ferry leaves.
If you are worried about the load bay floor why not slip an 8x4 onto it?Rob Smith

disco commercial
you wont have any problem with the 800KG weight, we have 4 discovery commercials on our fleet that nearly everyday tow 3.5tons in a mobile generator and also carry nearly 900KG of cable and tools so you shouldnt have any issues with back full of wine.
Happy booze pal,Disco TD5 Commercial (now gone)

I used to get 50 cases in a Honda CRV without much bother so your estimate sounds good to me.
Where in France do you intend to go? I use Sainsbury's in Calais on the basis you can order on line and just turn up and its all on a pallet ready to go. Plus I use my nectar card!

B, open up the box and you'll fit a load more underneath

If you're buying near to the ferry that side and live near enough to ferry on this side, you probably wont have much driving to do apart from up and down the ferry ramp - low gear no bother
Case of wine weighs in at 14kgs - 72 x 14 = 1,008kgs
just dont have brekkie A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
