Further update:
Car booked in for Monday.
We had another dump of snow over the last week and I thought I would try starting it - it does start, but goes straight into limp home mode. I through in a bottle of STP cleaner to see if that helped - but still in limp mode.

The big problem was that the driveway runs down the side of the house and drops 1 floor in about 15m. Even in low-range it won't get up it in one go. I have to go up a little way, reverse down, repeat until it is up to the road - then a couple of laps of the ice-rink car park, switch off, then on and it is warm enough to not go into limp-home mode!!!

Rolling with laughter

The Disco is back!!!

After dropping it in on Saturday, they opened her up on Monday, fixed her on Tuesday and I collected her yesterday - can you guess that we don't need the car on a daily basis??

2 parts were changed, the EGR and the charged air pipe. The question is: Did it work?

The only answer is probably - as it was only drive the 10km home.
1) Throttle response is more immediate
2) It revs more cleanly - less of a dragging/rounded feel. Hard to explain, but before it used to accelerate with more of a thick roar - as if over throttling and the torque convertor sucking power away.
3) It upshifts noticably earlier - especially when cold!
4) The OBD was saying 11l/100km following 10km of town driving - it never got close to that before.

I would like to test it further - but unfortunately we have just bought a commuting car (old VW Passat 130TDI - from 2001) which is now responsible for the daily slog (fuel effiicent). I am expecting to do a run to France in 10 days to by wine for the wedding - I may take it then to see how it goes.

So far Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

(PS All work done under warranty. Hit with a 50% charge on the parts due to high KMs but I can live with that)

I was told by my 'friendly L R dealer' that it would fail MOT if EGR blanked off. is this the usual Dealer Bull?

Yes, and no.

EU3 models without an engine MIL will not currently fail an MOT when blanked. Wink

On EU4 models (07MY on). blanking the EGRs will usually cause the MIL to illuminate which does mean an MOT failure. Many have found that the MIL does not illuminate or may take a long time to show up. If emulators are fitted, these will prevent the MIL from illuminating and guarantee a pass. Thumbs Up

Edit: When I say "guarantee a pass", obviously, this is subject to other faults!

These for instance: https://secure.bellautoservices.co.uk/stor...-20072009/

The car and/or a diagnostic tool will see these as fully functioning EGRs. Thumbs Up

Guernsey 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

Hi all

Please could you help or steer me in the right direction.

06 S has just had egrs blanked off and software patch applied to avoid the fault EGR fault being thrown up.

car had originally gone into limp mode after throwing up the special programmes off then engine system fault. No black or other smoke just power loss. Diagnostic by garage - EGR fault and the above was the recommended solution. No suggestion of turbo failure on diagnostic.

I left the garage ( franchise but not landy) and within two minutes of leaving got special programmes off and loss of power ( as before ) but not engine system fault.

I advised them immediately and then dropped it off again after lunch. Power loss occurred again on way back to garage as well after a short distance from home.

They advised ( after further testing in the afternoon ) that map had been cleaned but believed Maf to be faulty based on readings.

I am not clear why this was not picked up on the test drive after egr's were blanked off ( and the patch applied) given how quickly the problem arose when I left the garage.

I have not asked them whether they have checked the split inter cooler possibility.

Any ideas ? Are they on the right track

Many thanks

lf

Check you have fuse 17 fitted in the main fuse box under bonnet or that fuse not blown. There are at least two members on here that have had it missing since build and not shown up for years. Long shot but worth checking. I vaguely recall mine would go into limp mode at about 2500 revs under load.

YET ANOTHER EGR FAULT Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Hi Can anyone please help me ???

I've had my D3 for 6 yrs its an 08 plate HSE It had 9K on the clock . Now has 79K.

I recently had both EGR's removed and capped off Then had it remapped. Was great for two weeks and then same old problem reappeared..... Went in to limp mode HDR fault, suspension lowered and vertually no power.... Spoke to the garage and they took it back in and said that they had remapped it again !!! STill same old problem. A couple of other original faults appeared "Water in Fuel fuel" & "Handbrake Fault" These are still appearing after being in for a total of 3 times now for remap. They have said that they can't understand what it can be , other than a fuel pump issue and the belt that drives it (which would be a min of £2500 min. to replace : Big Cry ) The fuel pump filter and tray were both renewed a week ago .

Can anyone please advise ??
