I blanked my D3 off over the week-end. I know how to work on bicycles, but not an engine!! Pete Bell's instructions are brilliantly detailed and after 2h30 mins - my D3 runs like a dream again. Saved £560 by blanking off rather than replacing the EGR valves - so worth it

Thought i'd just add my 2 pence worth, had my 08 D3 about 2weeks. Jumped in on tuesday started roughly and had the EMS light up on the dash and no power, phoned Landrover assist and they sent an engineer within the hour (very impressed).The guy (Neil) seemed to know his stuff told me what it was before he plugged in his laptop.He says that egr faults don't always show up in the fault list but my one did. He then tapped the valves and told me to listen to the valve resetting and sure enough it did. He disconnected the plugs and arranged for my dealer to do the repairs. When i took the car in i asked about having the egrs removed and blanked off but they said as authorised L/R dealers they couldn't as it would effect my warrenty. I was wondering,if i fit the BAS kit next year will the ems light on the dash stay on?. Got the car back yesterday all seems fine now,just waiting for the other one to pack up now. The little tip about tapping the valves with a screwdriver and hammer may help get someone out of trouble on the road though.

I have just fitted an egr valve blanking kit after one of my valves failed... its amazing how much power is lost when they are gone! its like a new car again! A few weeks ago I noticed when first starting in the morning the car was very slow after a few seconds it was back to normal. I had a look at the posts on here and narrowed it down to the faulty egr valves! thanks for the help everyone.

No need for blanking kits 2x 1penny piece, take engine cover off and look at th intake/throttle body housing, 2 silver tubes with weave jackets go either side to the top center of engine from the EGR valves, release the 2 clips at top pull pipes out slip a penny in each tube and replace, pipes are now sealed egr nolonger works and power stays constan, and wen its time for the MOT you can just pop em out give it a good run and hey presto emmisions are legal  LV3 LR Technicin

I always say, " if its worth doing a job, do it right"!

Ah thats cool we have had quit a few in with blanking kits and wen we send em off 4 mot we get lots failing.. if your ok thats a bonus LV3 LR Technicin

My EGR valves is allso gone, butt I am in Namibia and there is no kits availeble here. Where can I find a step by step manual to try to sort out this problem.
And is it posible to get the software and programing cable to do maping on the Disco 3.
My problem is that I live in Africa, here you need to do it yourself.

My bosses D4 did this before Xmas.
They had LR chap out & it was actually the turbo cable/pipe that was lose.
There D4 only done 1000 miles! Also was not towing at the time but had done it a couple of times before when he had been. He did the turn of wait 5min turn back on & reset itself!
No probs since LR chap looked at it!
I have an 07 D3 am wondering if possible to blank mine? Is there a kit yet made for the post 06 TDV6?
