Good = GS Coventry; Terrible = Lancaster Welwyn |
|
Just bought new D4 XS - very happy with the car but very mixed experiences with Dealerships.
Went to Lancaster in Welwyn initially where I experienced all that can be bad with a car salesman eg. largely unhelpful with questions, pushy on my 'budget' / price expectations (I daresay many customers want the best price and not to spend a fixed amount of money), lots of bullsh*t 'negotiation' before I'd even decided to buy, argumentative and then unresponsive. I ended up having to complain to the sales manager inorder to get someone else to deal with there.
What really surprised me though was how uncompetitive they were on trade-in valuations. I had two cars to part-ex and had done homework on one of them (had it valued a few weeks previous to part-ex against something else). They offered me 25-30% less than the prev part-ex price (~£5k lower) on the basis 'nobody wants it'. Turns out they only went within Group to get a price and their Porsche Centre was pricing low and they were unwilling/unable to go outside Group to get me a competitive price. Interesting when i told them I had a better price elsewehere they were able to 'find' another £3.5k (stunning that their first offer was 20% lower than best price) but were still 20% off on total cost to change.
In contrast, Guy Salmon in Coventry were great. Very friendly, straightforward, responsive and helful - an absolute pleasure to deal with. They were also exactly where I had expected them to be on pricing for both part-ex and new car. Can't recommend them highly enough.
