Turbo Chipping & Insurance
Thinking about TCing D3 (I know I said 189 hossies was enough but seen sense). I'm trying to get a handle on extra insurance costs, anyone any experience on additional charges as a result of TCing???

My first D3 was Turbochipped and my then insurer (through the AA) refused to cover it. The AA then found Norwich Union who's price increased my premium by £40.
I have bought a new S which is not chipped but my premium is the same???? I've questioned this but can get no explanation...... you work it out.Discovery 3 'S' Bonatti Grey.
i am with axa and told them about my chip and they said no problem and put it in writting to me that my car would be fully covered with no extra premium

Well, they certainly know about my TC and it hasn't affected my More Than premium. Documented in the policy schedule too. In fact, they are aware of a number of 'mods' to my SE.
Must be the fact that you are a Scotsman in Wales with 2 D3s........ Got to be something strange going on there!!

Tooo true, long story how I ended up in Wales but gota hang hat somewhere!. Poss More than don't like mods as I'm a student! will try them again!
PS Just tried More Than twice, once through normal call centre (India so not sure understood that well) and cancelleation line. Both said that would not cover if it increased "top speed, performance or acceleration", they were not flexible on that at all.
Oh what joy!

Done confused.com, no joy, even Landrover insurance won't quote on it! The quest is still on but looks doomed!

I have been thinking of getting mine chipped (when I eventully get it). But, after reading the above comments I thought I would ring around. I have just spent the last 2 hours ringing insurnance companies and no one will insure me. Not even the specialised modified companies. They say the BHP is too high !!!!!
I am 38 and have 3 points from 2 years ago !, could that be it.
I would be very interested to hear from the hundreds of chipped owners as to what insurance company you use and contact nos.
Cheers
Duncan

I'm 42, no points (mature student does not make a difference), only Privelige at double normal (200ish without) and 600 excess. I'm sure a V8 would cost less to insure!

think TC (Chris) posted a 'chip friendly' insurance co a while ago - maybe worth emailing him?
