My experience of the wireless IPod connection is that performance can be very erratic. When working well the audio quality is noticeably reduced and there can be break through from stronger proper radio transmissions particularly in the M6 corridor where lots of commercial radio stations use very close frequencies to those used by the IPod transmitters. I believe that the wireless type broadcasters may be illegal in Europe (not that anyone is likely to catch you using one).
I did try a couple of different ones here in CH before I went for the ice>link, they were useless!
The good news is that it the Dension ice>link is available for Alpine head units.
In the US they are $199 + tax, there is a UK distributor. The ice>link also allows you to control the iPod via the head unit controls, (even those on the steering wheel, I wouild guess).
The UK distributor was very helpfull in identifying the make of head unit of a friend with a Defender 110, after sending him a digi pic of the rear. Discovery 3 XS Auto, Stornaway, Active rear diff.

The bad news, like I said previously, is there is no standard changer input on the Discovery 3 -- as the 6-disc changer is in-dash & integrated on the "Premium" stereo head unit. Not sure about the single in-dash CD stereo -- we don't have those in my market. It's not just a "stock" Alpine head unit; it's quite unique to the newest Land Rover models.

The quality of the FM transmitter is not good. It is ok if the vehicle is stationary, but while moving it is bad! I have also had issue with the volume levels out of the IPOD headphone jack, but have found shareware software which boost the allowed volume levels. Apple in Europe was required to limit the volume, while on US models they were not. Any way the shareware software in questions can double the volume and I have found that my volume levels using the AUX-in are similar to listening to a CD.
Before changing the IPOD volume, I use to have to turn the D3 volume to about 20 before it become adequate. When the navigation computer voiice commands came on, they were startling me and the kids! Know all resolved with this volume hack! 2017 Disco5 First Edition(On Order)

The Ipods earphone out is NOT suitable for AUX output.
Resetting the internal volume will make a difference but if you use the proper output via the iPod dock (if you have one) then you will see a big difference.
Believe me! Discovery 3 XS Auto, Stornaway, Active rear diff.

Martin 4x4, I have and IPOD dock and on long journeys use it for charging and the aux out. I periodically on short journays just plug into the headphone out. I must admit I don't notice a big difference, now that I have boosted the volume. I would have quite a good ear being a musicain.
Are you able to explain the difference between the signal coming out of a docked IPOD vs the headphone jack? 2017 Disco5 First Edition(On Order)

I haven't got an MP3 player yet, but what should I get to work best in disco and what extra equipment do I need over and above whats supplied with the mp3 player.

Just about every MP3 player review you will read will tell you that although iPods can be bettered by the competition in just about every respect, they have that magic combination and "certain something" that still makes them "the best".
Besides, they are by far the best supported for aftermarket goods - if you want a neat solution to integrate an MP3 player into your D3, even though there may not be one at the moment, if there ever is one, it will be an iPod one.

Hi Guys,
First post (of many I Hope), I have used the RF Transmitter in my Disco, and it works fine if you can get a frequency which is clear by a few hertz either side of it, only down side is another power lead is needed, and if you drive alot then as you cross radio 'borders' another signal may interfear with it.

Hi All,
It's all very well for those with MP3 players/IPODs, but I've noticed that the built in CD multiplayer can also play MP3's.
I've downloaded iTunes, JHymn (which unlocks copy protection and allows songs with right protection to be saved in the MP3 format) then using CD burning software such as Nero I'm able to write MP3 CD's which play in the car.
Even better though, apart from neing able to store 150 tracks+ on one CD is that ability to arrange these tracks into folders-per CD album. The D3 CD multiplayer allows you to select album with the # and * keys, whilst all the normal FF and FR keys alter the tracks.
I've purchased a few songs online, those that I've always wanted plus imported various CD's into iTunes and then burnt just one CD which now contains ALL six CD's that were previously in hte multi-changer!!!! Using 160Kbits MP3 encoding I guess I can easy store 150+ tracks per CD, therefore have the ability to have 900'ish tracks on the D3. For those wishing to sacrifice sound quality a littel you can encode MP3 using something like MP3PRO so that you can store 300 tracks per CD, therefore able to have 1800 tracks in the D3.
So do you really need IPOD? CD's are cheap, in fact I'm using CD-RW so if I get bored I can format the CD and rewite it again.
