Latest update for mine is that yesterday burnt oil was found and dealer has recommended transmission overhaul. Anyone had one of these done - have heard its big bucks. Is this overkill or is it beyond just needing a flush?
Cheers

Yes.. mine spat out a gearbox at 66K.
Car was out of warranty, but covered by post warranty cover.
Also had the rear diff replaced at the same time... the front diff was done around 40k from memory. And the ball joints at the same time.
Great reliable cars aren't they?

According to the auto shop here in Brisbane specializing in ZF boxes, it is essential that ZF boxes are regualrily flushed. They are getting a lot of European vehicles and also Fords with damaged boxes.
As I said earlier the flush fixed my shutter. 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.

I asked the stealer about a flush and filter change and he replied with "it's lifetime oil you don't need to do that", and then tells me that i need a new gearbox? I think i'll flush and see what happens. 2006 D3 HSE

Don't think we LR owners are Robinson Crusoe, I visit a number of other forums and gearbox failures appear to more common than any other major component. On the Audi site a TTS had a gearbox replaced at 15,000kms. 06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.

Thanks for that - are you getting the steel pan etc done as well as that seems a pretty good quote and may give them a ring myself?

Well, having had the service dept say it had burnt oil and needed an overhaul, the sales guy took it to a transmission specialist who basically just gave it a flush. That has definitely cured the shudder but my concern is, for how long and whether this is just a short term fix......

Got the flush and filter change done and what a difference it made, the guys at JRT are great they said that it should be done every 80k. Will see how long the transmission stays happy.... 2006 D3 HSE

FWIW, I had my auto double flushed at 100,000km and a steel sump fitted. The slight shudder on light acceleration uphill at about 40-60 km/h has gone and the shifts are now back to like new.
Thanks CaverD3 for the group buy of oil.
A group of 2 was not optimal - but better than forking out for a 20L drum myself!
