If you use the right GSM box you can get it to text you back to tell you the pump is running. Many of the boxes have a monitoring/conditional reporting functionality that will do this for you. I just need to sit down and work out the what/how and why of it as I haven't even taken my GSM-Auto out of the packaging yetI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

FFS guys, lighten up........jeez.
When mine was fitted, NOT BY ME but a guy of greater knowledge than any commenters, I did'nt know it was to light up whilst driving, I wanted it to light up only when parked and timer/GSM activated.
Once I did find out I did check with the police, and although they said its not advisable, but NOT illegeal. That being said I modified the light with electrical tape from this
to this
And looks like this in normal running
Hope that satisfies the armchair critics - YET AGAIN

Thread split to keep tidy.
One thought I have had - how do all the HGVers get away with displaying blue/green/red etc LEDs pointing forwards? 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!
If the police want to pull them, they could. Can't help thinking there's a longer paperwork trail for trucks, which may be a bit of a disincentive?I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Martin, we get away with Amber Forward and Along trailer, not just Marker Lights but the OVER THE TOP decorations some have, Red/Blue/Green are allowed as long as the Don't flash/strobe and can be isolated in cab.

I were under the same impression as you mac, when TFC fitted the gsm mod and timer that it would only light up if triggered by the gsm dialer!
This isn't the case and to be honest, until i were driving the other morning and saw it on in another cars boot reflection, i would have been none the wiser as i can't drive it and be at the front at the same time
Anyway, the tugg i got from plod yesterday did me a favour as i know want something more subtle inside the D3!!!

lights
Hi Mac
Good on you for covering it up so its not easily seen I have been behind so many people with the green lights on and I have had to bully my way through due to us being told that the patient has chest pains we do push on sometimes because we have to.
The trucks get away with it because there are no 40 foot police vehicles to my knowledge I think the biggest in use is for a command unit or horses so there fore they cant be deemed to impersonating a police vehicle, but I may be wrong.
cheers

Well you are wrong, I rang Hastings Police this morning and AGAIN they see no problem as long as I am NOT pretending to be a doctor. They added, as I have already said that Doctors have NO exception to the Speed Limit, or privilage against other road users......Therefore My D3 is Legal, and Green light will remain
Initially people were wiring LEDs to the GSM output, but that only tells you that the GSM has worked, not that the FBH has fired. One alternative is to wire the LED to the FBH pump, so it only works when the FBH has fired up. This is the option Iain has used.
It would be possible to wire it so it extinguishes once the engine is fired up (add a relay on an ignition-switched feed, set to open circuit when ingnition is live), but it would add to the complexity and cost of the installation and that in turn could make it less robust.
Just a thoughtI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Forward facing red is absolutely not permitted unless you are a fire service control unit at the scene of an emergency 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
