It might not be such a crazy idea after all....
The Range_e version of the RRS has the 8 speed ZF fitted to the 3.0 SDV6 engine so it is obviously do-able 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

LR also need everyone that rushed to buy D4's to now go and buy new ones again so they need to do something pretty special,,
esp with fuel costs, etc more and more selling up.. one wife.......livid

IIRC it was rumoured right from the start that the D4 was going to have an 8-speed. So maybe it wasn't quite ready at launch...? The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

that would be nice, 8 speed with start/stop - should be able to get the same as the toureg then - around 40mpg. Which makes the fuel costs a bit easier to swallow

start/stop will just ruin the starter motor and battery and make the car more unreliable just like other environMENTAL tech such as EGR vulvas. any way of removing it all ? There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

You could always press the button on the dash to turn the stop-start system off (it's fitted to all vehicles with this system)... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

only if it loses about 300kg and adopts part time 4wd !
Start stop makes fek all difference to real world consumption. Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

you can wait forever to buy as there is always a new model/varient around the corner. yes latest is nice but i would not like to be the guinea pig public tester on a major upgrade as they are seldom 100% ok before being forced into manufacture. just look at the D4 first year problems. Most major issues are resolved now (turbo vanes etc) but a new lump and box is a whole new kettle of fish.

true, I have always been confused as all the stopping and starting cant be good for the engine, it would more likely to go wrong after 3 years of owning with no warranty

The spec sheet for the D4 MY2012 have now been pushed out to the dealers. I was afforded a sneaky look yesterday if i promised not to shout about it. The changes go way beyond the relatively insignificant changes made for the MY2010 to MY2011 and are all for the good (subjective i know).
Though i am clearly not about to list them here, we could make this into a game: you guys make a guess and i'll reply in a manner which doesn't incriminate me......(maybe's and possibly's or no's).

8 speed gear box and 258bhp engine. Confirmed by my dealer when I was enquiring about a new vehicle.
Over here, PDC and PTI also becomes standard on SE model (this will differ in UK market).
I'm also hoping they will change the design of the rear light cluster surround as it is a bit too blingy for my taste.
I will be getting the rest of the changes confirmed on Wednesday The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
