It only has an auxilliary input on the rear of the centre cubby box. Not a full Ipod interface. Would be nice to have, but sadly no.

Don't try connecting your iPod via the earphone socket - it's not designed for AUX!

Try http://www.sendstation.com/

and their PocketDock, as you need a line out from the iPod to connect to the AUX input.

Aaah, so is that why the sound from my iPod into the D3's Aux socket is too quiet?
This Sendstation widget thingy makes it all loud and clear?

Grommet, then there is something else that is not right!

If you have a home stereo try using the earphone output through that and then try it with a SendStation (or see below) - you should see a considerable difference in the sound level.

PS if any of you have a iPod docking station this should enable you to test the car AUX using the mini jack output from this. You need a stereo male to male lead, or whatever conection on one end that meets your system needs.

Hi

I am told from a reliable source that a LR ipod interface will arrive soon, I was waiting for the denison kit that i have used in all my other cars but have now been told by them that they wont be making one as LR have a solution coming out soon.

So keep your eye out

I have the Dension ice>link in my Defender, with a Sony ICE unit. It's a great solution.

Does anyone know who makes the ICE kit for the LR3? My guess would be a European manufacturer (Philips, VDO/Blaupunkt?). If that's the case then there is probably a suitable solution from Dension already.

I'm not holding my breath. The typical "simulate a CD changer" hack/trick isn't going to fly, since we already we have an integrated CD changer. So, to be "integrated"... Land Rover would probably need to upgrade the radio firmware to drive a MOST based interface to the iPod. This is from the company that can't even get Bluetooth/PTI fully functional as dealer fit option. I'd expect a Land Rover branded iPod FM transmitter. Very Happy

I believe that the Densions ice>link can be "piggybacked" on any existing multi-cd device as long as there is a port on the back of the main unit.

(I cannot confirm this though!)

But why would you want to keep the CD storage device with an iPod?

It will hold most peoples entire CD collection - not just 6 or 8 CD's.

I understand the LR3 ICE to be an Alpine unit.

My Ipod Mini works just fine into the Aux socket. It is important to get the output level of the IPod right in order not to over-drive the head unit, but otherwise loud'n'clear!!

I have the harman/kardon logic7 system in my discovery. As far as I know BMW uses the same system. Maybe the icelink für BMW would work in my Discovery as well. What do you think?

The stereo head unit was developed with Alpine, but is nothing like any after-market Alpine unit. It is not the same as a BMW. There is no common CD changer input, especially not a BMW one.

Just in case any of you weren't aware, you can get iPod transmitters that plug into your aux power or cigarette lighter socket, which transmit the output on a radio frequency that you can then tune your radio into, i.e. no wired connection.

Two things to be aware of though:

Quality won't be as good as a wired connection (though to be honest in a car I don't think you'd really notice the difference)

As these things are technically radio transmitters and are transmitting on "public" frequencies, they are illegal to use (though not buy/sell), at least in the UK.

Never used one myself, so can't vouch for the quality, but may be of interest even if it's as a stop-gap until a wired version becomes available
